YOUR VOICE MATTERS

Silence can allow human rights violations to continue.

Whether it is discrimination, unlawful detention, violence, abuse, exploitation, or denial of basic rights, every violation deserves attention.

Human rights protection begins when people know their rights and have the courage to speak against injustice.

**Stand for dignity. Stand for justice. Stand for equality. Stand for human rights.**

Together, we can build a Nigeria where the rights and dignity of every person are respected and protected.

EVERY CHILD HAS THE RIGHT TO BE SAFE

Children deserve to grow up in an environment free from violence, abuse, exploitation, bullying, and neglect.

Protecting children is not only the responsibility of parents or government—it is a collective responsibility.

If you see a child being abused or whose rights are being violated, **do not look away. Speak up and seek help.**

Together, we can create a safer society where every child can grow, learn, dream, and thrive.

**Protect a child today. Protect the future.**

EVERYONE DESERVES DIGNITY

Human rights belong to every person—regardless of age, gender, background, status, or circumstance.

The right to life, dignity, freedom, equality, and justice must be respected and protected.

Let us all play our part in building a society where every individual is treated with dignity and where no one is denied their fundamental rights.

**Know your rights. Respect the rights of others. Speak up against violations.**

REPORT OF THE QUARTERLY MEETING OF THE HIGH MULTI-AGENCY TEAM (HIMAT) ON ABIA STATE SEXUAL OFFENDERS DATABASE
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Abia State Office, honoured an invitation from the Abia State Ministry of Justice to participate in the Quarterly Meeting of the High Multi-Agency Team (HIMAT) on the Abia State Sexual Offenders Database.
The meeting was held on 5th August 2026 at the International IDEA Office, No. 45 St. Finbarr's Road, opposite Crunchies, Umuahia, Abia State. The Commission was represented at the meeting by Francisca Ojukwu
The meeting was convened to assess the implementation of the 2026 HIMAT Action Plan for the period January to June 2026, which could not be implemented within the stated period.
During the meeting, members reviewed the action plan and discussed the reasons for the non-implementation of the activities scheduled for January to June 2026.
After deliberation, it was unanimously agreed that the unimplemented activities would be carried over and commenced from August to December 2026. Some adjustments were also made to the action plan to reflect the current circumstances and improve its implementation.

The following challenges were identified during the meeting:
Poor communication among participating agencies, which affects the timely dissemination of information and coordination of activities.
Frequent changes in representatives/participants, making continuity and effective follow-up on agreed actions difficult. The changes in participants also affect the ability to track previously agreed decisions and responsibilities.
