School of Politics, Policy and Governance (Cohort 4)
For the past 5 months, I have been in a Specialized School called SPPG, an acronym for School of Politics, Policy and Governance. Before we began Sessions in November, I kept hearing that the School is tedious, hectic, and time-consuming. I was like, “ki lo le to to yen”, a Yoruba phrase for, “it cannot be as hard as that”, but alas, five months into it and indeed, it’s been pretty intensive.

So, I applied and forgot about it. Months later, in the month of August, I received an email that I had been given admission:
“Dear ADENIKE COMFORT OLUMIDE-EMMANUEL
Congratulations, you have been admitted into SPPGClassof2023. Find attached your Admission letter and Scholarship contract”.

Several correspondences came in, in quick successions as the weeks went by. We were to have our Matriculation end of October and begin classes in the month of November with something called “Acculturation”. I needed to go find the meaning of the word…Smiles. I was given a 50% discount.

The School was to be on for 10 months, Tuesdays to Fridays with Mondays and Saturdays coming in, every now and then. We were to go through 24 Modules with 140 topics. We are halfway in.
So, far, we’ve had the likes of, Frank Nweke II, Aisha Yesufu, Dr. Doyin Salami, Dr. Usman Bugaje, Prof. Jibrin Ibrahim, Kah Walla, Abubakar Suleiman, Dr. Sam Adeyemi, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, Dr. Amina Salihu, Tonye Cole, Prof. Stella Madueme, and the Ezekwesili Twins, just to mention a few take us in Class. We have Prof. Yetunde Anibaba as our dean, Mrs. Alero Ayida-Otobo as our Global C.E.O., and our Founder, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili.

Of the topics we’ve had so far, remember, we would have had 140 by the time School is over in August but let me mention 5 here:
Understanding Public Leadership
History of Nigeria: Pre-independence, Independence, and Post-Independence
Managing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Political Economy in the 21st Century
Defining Criteria for Nigeria’s 21st Century

These classes have been enlightening, mind-boggling, and blood-pumping. In class, when talking about data, we say, “In God we trust, everyone else, come with your Data”. We don't just speak, we speak with facts and data and the facts and data about Nigeria will daze you. But, Nigeria has one good thing working for her, her Human Resources, they are intelligent and vibrant. If Nigeria can get her HR right, almost all, will be well with her.

Anyways, as we get set to round off in August of 2023- we will be having our Graduation Ceremony in October in Abuja…Abuja, here I come…Smiles- well, as we get set to Convocate, the application is out again for the next set of Cohorts…Cohort 4.

I forgot to mention this earlier but you see, I liken SPPG to Harvard Kennedy School, that is, the John F. Kennedy School of Government, the School of Public Policy and Government of Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. A School- SPPG- where if you are serious about Politics in Nigeria or you want to serve in government in one way or the other, is a School you Should Definitely ATTEND.

I see the SPPG in not too distant future becoming a source of capable Nigerians who have Character, are Competent, and have the Capacity required of them to talk the talk and walk the talk. People who are ready to serve their fatherland not because of nepotism and favoritism, but because they are capable and will get the job done.

The link is out for applications for Cohort 4. Are you ready for 10 months of grueling intelligence work, Tuesdays to Fridays, 6pm to 9pm? You said, ahhhh! That was what I said too…but, it’s for “one-10 months” in your life. By the time you are done, it will be worth it. I am not done yet, and I can definitely tell you that it was money spent in the right direction.

I cannot end my write-up without telling you about the amazing people I have met in Class. You see, the SPPG is also a sort of family-bounding school, so, they keep sharing us into Clusters and Groups…you know, making the larger class become smaller so that we can have a relationship among ourselves. So, I have met amazing people like, Abraham, Amarachukwu, Linda, IB, JB, Kunle, Dalhatu, Sope, Shalom, Samuel…I could go on and on. Our sessions every evening are ones I look forward to. By the time class is done each day, you think, “no class can beat this one I just had”, but by the time you are done with the class the next day, you are like, “oh my God…another breath-taking session just ended”… and on and on like that.
