SSDC DELIVERS HUMANITARIAN RELIEF TO VULNERABLE COMMUNITIES IN BAYELSA STATE

In response to a request from the Bayelsa State Emergency Management Agency (BYSEMA), the South-South Development Commission (SSDC) provided humanitarian relief materials to communities affected by flooding and other environmental challenges in Bayelsa State.

On behalf of the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Usoro Akpabio, the Executive Director, Human Capital Development and Social Services, Engr. Preye Aganaba, alongside the SSDC Monitoring Team, handed over the Commission’s relief materials and supervised their distribution in Odi Community, Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA, and Emeyal Community, Ogbia LGA.

The team was received by the Director-General of BYSEMA, Hon. Walamam Samuel Igrubia, alongside two Directors of the Agency, Mr. Amiefamonyo Braide Fredrick and Dr. Yaibimi Ayogoi Simeon.

The intervention provided essential food supplies, household necessities, bedding and other welfare materials to vulnerable persons and affected families.

As part of our institutional partnership with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), we continue to coordinate on beneficiary data, needs assessments and emergency response information to avoid duplication, identify gaps and ensure humanitarian assistance reaches those most in need.

This intervention reflects the Commission’s statutory mandate to address environmental, humanitarian and developmental challenges across the South-South region.

We acknowledge the efforts of His Excellency, Governor Douye Diri, and the Bayelsa State Government in responding to the needs of affected communities.

In alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the SSDC remains committed to delivering practical, people-centred interventions that alleviate hardship, protect vulnerable populations and strengthen community resilience.

Our mandate is regional. Our responsibility is to the people.

SSDC DELIVERS HUMANITARIAN RELIEF MATERIALS TO FLOOD-AFFECTED COMMUNITIES IN DELTA STATE

On Wednesday, 21 October 2026, the Executive Director, Human Capital Development and Social Services of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC), Engr. Aganaba Preye Steven, represented me in Asaba, Delta State, at the official handover of humanitarian relief materials to the Delta State Emergency Management Agency (DESTMA), headed by its Director General, Dr. Benjamin Okiemute.

Accompanied by the Commission’s Monitoring and Evaluation team, he was received by the Honourable Commissioner for the Bureau for Special Duties, Hon. Etacherure Ejiro Terry.

This intervention reinforces our partnership with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), as we join efforts with federal and state authorities to provide humanitarian assistance to communities affected by floods, fires and other environmental disasters.

The South-South region remains particularly vulnerable to recurring ecological emergencies that claim lives, displace families, destroy livelihoods and threaten food security. Our mandate requires us to respond to these realities through practical interventions that provide immediate relief while supporting long-term resilience.

Humanitarian assistance is not merely about distributing relief materials; it is about preserving human dignity, easing hardship and ensuring that affected communities are not abandoned in their most difficult moments.

I appreciate His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for establishing the SSDC under the Renewed Hope Agenda, and His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, for the Delta State Government’s collaboration and commitment to the welfare of its people.

The materials have been handed over for onward distribution to affected households, with the expectation that assistance reaches the intended beneficiaries.

At the SSDC, we will continue to complement the efforts of NEMA, state governments and relevant institutions in strengthening emergency response and addressing the environmental challenges peculiar to our region.

Our priority remains clear: Protect lives, restore livelihoods and deliver meaningful impact where it matters most.
