Bayelsa State Tourism Development & Hotel Licensing Agency

The Bayelsa State Tourism Development and Hotel Licensing Agency has announced the official commencement of a statewide grading and classification exercise for hospitality establishments operating within the state.

In a government special announcement issued by the Agency, the exercise will cover hotels, guest houses, restaurants, night clubs, bars and all other hospitality service-providing outfits across Bayelsa State.

According to the statement, the grading and classification exercise is scheduled to begin on Monday, 23rd February, 2026, and will run from 9:00 a.m., Monday through Friday.

The Agency directed all hoteliers, restaurant owners and hospitality operators to ensure full compliance ahead of the inspection. Operators are required to make all necessary documents available and ensure that their operational facilities and service standards conform to approved hospitality guidelines before the arrival of the Agency’s visiting team.

The exercise is aimed at standardizing operations within the hospitality sector, improving service delivery, and strengthening tourism development in Bayelsa State.

Bayelsa Tourism Agency, FTAN Move to Strengthen Hospitality Sector

The Director-General of the Bayelsa State Tourism Development and Hotel Licensing Agency (BSTDHLA), Mrs. Oluseyi Ayamasa-Owei, has called on the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) to work closely with the Agency on a draft partnership aimed at strengthening tourism and hospitality in the State.

Mrs. Oluseyi Ayamasa-Owei made the call when a six-man delegation from FTAN, led by its Chairman, Mr. Williams Parker, visited her office on 23, September, 2025, at the Agency’s Conference Hall, Annex 3, Ovom, Yenagoa.

Mrs Ayamasa-owei noted that a partnership with FTAN would play a key role in consolidating and expanding Bayelsa’s tourism and hospitality potential.

In his remarks, Mr. Parker expressed delight at the shared vision between the Agency and FTAN, describing the collaboration as a pathway to taking the State’s tourism sector to greater heights. He assured that the Association would carefully study the draft and provide constructive input.

The five-page draft document outlines areas of collaboration, including development of tourism infrastructure, capacity building for state and local government tourism officers, standardization and best practices, the promotion of domestic tourism. It also mandates FTAN's involvement in the registration, grading and licensing of hotels and other hospitality services in the State. The initiative is expected to further position Bayelsa as a thriving hub for tourism and hospitality.
