No solid findings have been made yet in the second SAR mission. During the search operation, although the SAR dog showed a lot of interest in a few places, it was not possible to dig and check those spots. When the dog was brought back to that same area, it appeared to work with intense focus due to a strong scent. After a five-day SAR mission, the team moved to another location yesterday, and although work was planned according to yesterday's schedule, searches could not be conducted in the designated area due to rain. However, searches were carried out in that area today, and during this time, meetings were also held with the Nepal Army, the Armed Police Force (APF), and locals.
The Nepal Army and the Armed Police Force (APF) have been stationed here since the 14th of Bhadra, continuously excavating the search zone where large holes were dug to find structures beneath the sand debris. Despite using heavy excavation equipment and technical experts to dig as deep as 20 meters, they found no human remains. As a result, they called off the excavation on the third of Asoj, and both forces are now retreating.
The area was hit by large boulders, huge slabs of bridges, and even 10-wheel and other vehicles that were dumped into it. The river rose about 20 meters in height from its level before the flood. The area became blocked with debris, creating a natural dam that lasted a few minutes and must have accelerated with greater force when the blockage broke, according to Hem Gurung, who works in tunnel construction.
Additionally, a dog search team consisting of two dogs and six members searched the entire Sureni search zone today.
Tomorrow, the team will follow the downstream of the Trishuli River and make camp somewhere in Pokhiri Gaun (village).
Stay tuned for more updates, and support us to make this mission successful. We will be here till 29th September.
