Every child deserves a healthy start in life, and every mother deserves the support, care, and encouragement she needs to breastfeed. This August, the Municipal Nutrition Council of Jabonga joins the celebration of National Breastfeeding Awareness Month 2026, highlighting the vital role of breastfeeding in building healthier children, stronger families, and a healthier community.
This yearโs celebration carries the theme:
๐ฟ โBreastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works.โ ๐ฟ
The theme calls on everyone to build on the practices, programs, and support systems that have been proven to help mothers breastfeed successfully. It reminds us that breastfeeding support should not stop after childbirthโit should continue throughout a motherโs breastfeeding journey.
Breastfeeding provides infants with essential nutrients and protective factors that support their growth, development, and immune system. Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life provides babies with the nourishment they need during this critical period, while continued breastfeeding together with appropriate complementary foods from six months onward contributes to their continued growth and development.
Breastfeeding also benefits mothers. It is associated with important maternal health benefits, including a reduced risk of breast and ovarian cancers, while also supporting recovery after childbirth. More than nutrition, breastfeeding provides comfort, closeness, and an opportunity to strengthen the bond between mother and child.
However, breastfeeding is not a responsibility that belongs to mothers alone.
A mother needs a continuous support networkโfrom her family, healthcare providers, workplace, barangay, community, and local government. A helping hand at home, accurate information from a health worker, a breastfeeding-friendly workplace, and a community that respects and protects breastfeeding can make a meaningful difference in a motherโs journey.
The Municipal Nutrition Council of Jabonga recognizes that creating a breastfeeding-friendly community requires collective action. Through strengthened nutrition and health programs, continuous education and advocacy, and the cooperation of families, barangays, health and nutrition workers, and other stakeholders, we can help ensure that every mother receives the support she needs and every child gets the healthy beginning they deserve.
This National Breastfeeding Awareness Month, let us not only celebrate breastfeeding but also strengthen the support surrounding every breastfeeding mother.
๐คฑ Protect breastfeeding. Promote breastfeeding. Support breastfeeding.
๐ฑ Let us strengthen what works for a sustainable start in life.
Together, let us build a healthier, well-nourished, and breastfeeding-friendly Jabonga. ๐
Happy National Breastfeeding Awareness Month 2026!
