The Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory (RSTL) of DOST Caraga successfully completed its First Surveillance Visit with Special Assessment under PNS ISO/IEC 17025:2017 on March 24โ26, 2026, conducted by the Philippine Accreditation Bureau (Department of Trade and Industry).
This significant milestone underscores DOST Caragaโs unwavering commitment to upholding international quality standards, ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and credibility of its testing and calibration services. Through continuous adherence to ISO standards, the RSTL strengthens trust among stakeholders and supports industries, research institutions, and communities across the region.
The assessment yielded positive results, including the recommended continuation of all existing signatories from the Chemical, Microbiological, and Metrology Laboratories, the approval of additional signatories for the Chemical and Microbiological Laboratories, and the grant of expanded accreditation scope for the Metrology Laboratory, particularly on Temperature Controlled Enclosures.
More than a compliance requirement, this achievement reflects DOST Caragaโs vital role in advancing quality infrastructure and fostering a culture of excellenceโensuring that services delivered to Caraganons meet globally recognized standards and contribute to safe, innovative, and competitive industries.

Under this arrangement, the DOST Caraga Regional Office and the DOST Provincial Offices in Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands will be open to the public from Monday to Thursday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM only, while Fridays to Sundays will be non-working days.
This initiative supports government efforts to conserve energy while ensuring uninterrupted public service.

In pursuit of promoting accuracy, integrity, and consumer trust in commercial transactions, the DOST-Caraga Regional Metrology Laboratory (RML) took part in the OPLAN Calibration: Surprise Inspection of Business Establishments held on October 14, 2025, in RTR, Agusan del Norte. The activity was organized by the LGU Remedios T. Romualdez in partnership with the Department of Energy (DOE), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
Through this initiative, the participating agencies collectively ensured consumer protection and fair-trade practices by conducting inspection, verification, and sealing of weighing scales and fuel dispensers in local business establishments. The DOST-Caraga RML extended its technical expertise in calibration and measurement verification, empowering the LGU to strengthen its implementation of the Consumer Act of the Philippines (R.A. 7394).
This collaborative effort highlights the governmentโs shared commitment to maintaining accuracy in measurement and fairness in commerce, ensuring that every transaction made in the marketplace is anchored in honesty and trust for the protection and welfare of all consumers.

Three personnel from Surigao del Norte State University (SNSU) and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte successfully completed their two week technical work immersion at the DOST Caraga Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory (RSTL) on August 11 to 22, 2025.
Mr.Jemon Carl M. Sulimba of SNSU Del Carmen Campus, together with Ms. Ivy Marie T. Julgalbot and Ms. AC E. Juntilo of LGU Del Carmen, underwent intensive training covering the fundamentals of laboratory operations. The sessions focused on protocol implementation, sample acceptance and analysis, quality assurance practices, and regulatory compliance, key competencies in preparing for the full operation of the soon to be established LGU Del Carmen Water Testing Laboratory.
With these enhanced technical capabilities, LGU Del Carmen is a step closer to providing reliable, timely, and standardized water testing services to its communities, contributing to safer and healthier living conditions.
This initiative is part of DOST Caragaโs sustained efforts to build the capacities of local government units in safeguarding public health through science based solutions, as the RSTL continues its commitment to enabling local institutions to deliver accurate testing services for safer communities.

These experiences sharpened their technical skills, deepened their knowledge, and prepared them to meet the high standards and demands of the science and technology field.
