Medtrek holds fun ride for women

Medtrek, a mountain biking club composed of doctors and businessmen and women bike enthusiasts , will hold a fun ride from the Bacolod City Government Center to Barangay Alangilan this Sunday, March 15, in celebration of Women's Month.

Assembly time is at 5:45 a.m. in front of the Bacolod City Government Center and take off will be at 6:30 a.m., Dr. Ma. Luz Vicenta V. Guanzon, Medtrek president, said.

In recognition of City Administrator Em Ang's achievement in sponsoring the city ordinance to implement bike lanes around the City of Bacolod while councilor of Bacolod City, the group has invited her to be their guest speaker prior to the start of the fun ride, Guanzon said.

The group has also cited Ang for her role in the promotion of women’s empowerment.

They have also invited Councilor Cindy Rojas to deliver a short message in Alangilan, Guanzon said.

The purpose of holding a fun ride on Women's Month is to promote consciousness in the community on women empowerment as agent's of social change and as a voice against domestic violence, Guanzon said.

The fun ride is open to all women and men, there will no age limit and no registration fees, she said.

There will be free women’s month t-shirts for the first 20 women registrants, and there will be raffle and snacks at Alangilan Multipurpose Hall which is the final destination, Guanzon said.

Medtrek is a mountainbiking club whose primary purpose is to promote healthy lifestyle, fun, friendship, family fellowship through mountainbiking, Guanzon said.

It has an active membership of 28 of which nine are women. To date, it has the biggest number of documented women mountain bikers in Bacolod City, Guanzon added.*
