OBNHS faculty, staff, and Grade 12 students gathered after class hours on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, to hold a heartfelt retirement tribute for Maโam Ana B. Killip, marking the end of her distinguished 31-year career in education. The intimate program celebrated her decade-long tenure at OBNHS, where she served as a pioneer Senior High School (SHS) educator from 2016 to 2026.
The bittersweet ceremony, filled with tears and laughter, highlighted Ma'am Anaโs lasting impact on both her colleagues and her students. Among the most moving moments was a tribute from Jackylou Agluya, a former student of Ma'am Ana who is now a faculty member at OBNHS. Agluya spoke of a beautiful tradition passed on, sharing how her former mentor inspired her to pursue a career in teaching, bringing their relationship full circle as colleagues.
OBNHS Principal Jennifer A. Lapinas delivered the main address, offering a blend of deep gratitude and practical advice for the next chapter of Ma'am Ana's life.
"There is a time for everything... a time to be born, and a time to retire," Principal Lapinas said, expressing her sincere iyaman (gratitude) for Maโam Ana's vital role in the successful implementation of the schoolโs programs, projects, and activities (PPAs). "Enjoy the luxury of time. Starting tomorrow, you are a private citizen and a senior citizen. When you receive your pension, reserve some for yourself, because we donโt know what the future holds."
Master Teacher Veronica A. Basal also took the stage to wish the retiree well, encouraging her to fully enjoy her hard-earned rest.
The student body, deeply impacted by Ma'am Ana's years of guidance, took an active role in the send-off. Grade 12 student Dimar Cagay-an affectionately remarked, "kapintasan ay in ina ed Pak-as" (the most beautiful mother/elderly in school) and jokingly told her, "see you in Session Road, city girl." Fellow Grade 12 student Richardson Batnag brought laughter to the crowd, lightheartedly telling his teacher, "Go, magpariwara ka na!" (Go, pamper and enjoy yourself!).
Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) President Miguel Martin offered his own well-wishes on behalf of the students, saying, "Ragsakem ay sereken nan next ay adventure mo" (Enjoy entering your next adventure).
Adding a creative and humorous touch to the tributes, fellow SHS teacher Mary Ann Capcapen dedicated a special, witty acrostic spelling out "A-N-A," playfully highlighting the daily grinds of teaching:
A โ At last, you are done already with beating deadlines, lesson planning, and meetings, but
N โ Never forget everything you learned during your long years of service at OBNHS.
A โ And enjoy gallivanting around the city!
An emotional Ma'am Ana admitted to feeling a heavy but happy heart as she looked back on her legacy, particularly in helping establish the school's Senior High School department from its inception. The program concluded with a special send-off song performed by the OBNHS faculty, sealing an afternoon of deep appreciation for a beloved educator.
