On 01 October 2026, PSA-Mountain Province personnel served as Mathematics teachers at Sengyew Primary School in Monamon Sur, Bauko, sharing their time, knowledge, and teaching experience with the learners in celebration of Teachersโ Month.
For the personnel who are teachers by profession, Mathematics was familiar territory. The real plot twist? Two grade levels. Different Primary Languages. One classroom. One teacher.
While one group worked on an activity, the other needed explanations, guidance, or a little reminder to stay on task. Adding to this is a classroom where learners primarily speak Tagalog, Ilocano, Kankanaey, or English, and suddenly, teaching Mathematics became a lesson in communication, creativity, and patience.
The challenge was no longer just โWhat is the answer?โ but also โHow do we explain it, so everyone gets itโ.
Sometimes, the solution was a simpler explanation. Sometimes, a different example. Sometimes, a gesture. And sometimes, switching languages did the trick.
The experience gave the PSA personnel a glimpse of the everyday realities of teachers handling multigrade and multilingual classrooms who are juggling different lessons, learning levels, and languages while making sure every learner gets a chance to understand.
For a few hours, the PSA team became teachers and learned that Math may have definite answers, but teaching requires endless ways to reach one.
To all teachers, especially those handling multigrade and multilingual classrooms, salute! Two grade levels, several languages, countless questions and you still make learning happen every day.
