With the anticipated onslaught and heavy rainfall from Typhoon Uwan, all residents are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution and avoid hazardous areas.
๐ซ Avoid All Waterways.
The heavy and continuous rainfall brought by Typhoon Uwan significantly increases the risk of sudden and powerful water hazards.
๐ธ๏ธRivers and Creeks: These are highly susceptible to flash floods and rapid rises in water level. Riverbanks can become unstable and erode quickly. Never attempt to cross or go near these areas, even if the water currently appears calm.
๐ธ๏ธIrrigation Canals: Canals, even those that are typically shallow, can quickly turn into fast-flowing, deep, and dangerous torrents due to runoff and overflowing rivers. The strong currents pose a severe risk of being swept away.
โ
๏ธMaintain a safe distance from all bodies of water. If your home is near a waterway, be prepared to evacuate immediately to higher ground should water levels begin to rise or an official evacuation order is issued.
โฐ๏ธ Heed Warning in Landslide-Prone Areas
Saturated soil due to prolonged heavy rainfall is the primary trigger for landslides and soil erosion.
๐ธ๏ธSteep Slopes and Hillsides: Areas at the base or on the slopes of hills are highly vulnerable to landslides and mudslides. These events can occur without warning and are extremely destructive.
๐ธ๏ธAreas with Previous Landslide History: If your area has experienced landslides before, the risk is significantly higher under Typhoon Uwan's heavy rain.
โ
๏ธIf you reside in a landslide-prone area, or see signs like tilting trees, cracks in the ground, or unusual sounds (like a rumbling or cracking), evacuate immediately to a designated safe zone or an area known to be stable and high ground. Do not wait for an official order if you feel you are in immediate danger.
Key Safety Reminders:
โ
๏ธMonitor Official Updates: Continuously listen to local government and disaster management unit broadcasts for the latest weather bulletins and evacuation orders.
โ
๏ธPrepare an Emergency Kit: Ensure your emergency kit (with food, water, medicine, flashlights, and a whistle) is accessible.
โ
๏ธPrioritize Safety: Your life is more important than property. Do not risk your safety to retrieve belongings.
โ
๏ธStay indoors, stay informed, and stay safe.
