In celebration of Elderly Filipino Week 2026, the โMay Halaga, May Boses: A Human Rights-Based Training for Older Personsโ was held on October 6, 2026, at Balanghai Hotel & Convention.
In partnership with the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) โ Caraga Region and the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) โ Caraga Region, the activity brought together OSCA Heads, Federation Presidents of Senior Citizens, and Senior Citizen Focal Persons to learn more about protecting the rights and promoting the well-being of our older persons.
The activity featured three learning sessions:
๐ Atty. Jason Paul C. Maggarin of CHR Caraga discussed Senior Citizensโ Rights and Related Laws, highlighting the importance of knowing and upholding the rights of older persons. Mahalaga na alam ng ating mga senior citizen ang kanilang mga karapatan at kung paano ito mapoprotektahan laban sa diskriminasyon at pang-aabuso.
๐ Atty. Florence June D. Bantugan of NCSC Caraga led the Orientation on Senior Citizen Center Establishment, emphasizing the role of Senior Citizens Centers as spaces where older persons can connect with others, stay active, and participate in meaningful community activities. Hindi lang ito basta lugar na mapupuntahan, kundi isang espasyong nagbibigay ng pagkakataong makisalamuha, matuto, at manatiling aktibo ang ating mga lolo at lola.
๐ Sheamin Lae C. Dogmoc of CHR Caraga facilitated the Learning Session on Psychosocial Well-being, focusing on the importance of emotional and mental wellness among older persons. Dahil bukod sa pisikal na kalusugan, mahalaga rin na may nakikinig, may nakakaunawa, at may sumusuporta sa kanilang nararamdaman.
The sessions were complemented by a psychosocial activity and presentation of outputs, allowing participants to reflect, share experiences, and learn from one another.
More than just a series of discussions, the activity was a reminder that protecting the rights of senior citizens starts with listening to them, respecting their choices, and recognizing their value in our communities.
Patuloy nating palakasin ang ating mga lokal na partners upang masigurong ang bawat senior citizen ay may boses, may karapatan, at may lugar sa lipunan. Dahil ang ating mga lolo at lola ay hindi lamang bahagi ng ating kasaysayanโthey continue to be valuable members of our communities today.
May Halaga. May Boses. May Karapatan! ๐๐ด๐ต
