: Required ba ang mga babae na gamitin ang apelyido ng kanilang asawa?

: Hindi. Ayon sa prevailing jurisprudence o mga naging desisyon ng Korte Suprema, ang kasal na babae ay may opsyon, pero hindi obligasyon na gamitin ang apelyido ng kanyang asawa. Ang kasal na babae ay may sumusunod na opsyon:

• Ipagpatuloy ang paggamit ng kanyang maiden name o apelyido sa pagkadalaga; (Hal. Basilia Cruz)
• Idagdag sa kanyang pangalan at apelyido sa pagkadalaga ang apelyido ng kanyang asawa; (Hal. Basilia Cruz-Santos)
• Gamitin ang pangalan sa pagkadalaga at ang apelyido ng kanyang asawa (Hal. Basilia Santos)
• Gamitin ng buo ang pangalan ng asawa pero dagdagan ito ng "Mrs." para ipahiwatig na siya ay kasal rito (Hal. Mrs. Crispin Santos)

As we observe this year's Human Rights Day, we highlight Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) stating that “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.” We call for efforts to reduce inequalities and advance human rights. We call for actions and solutions to eliminate discrimination affecting the most vulnerable people in societies, including women and girls, indigenous peoples, LGBTQIA+, migrants, and people with disabilities, among others. Only with inclusion, equality, and non-discrimination can we achieve sustainable development.

Human Rights Day is observed every year on December 10, commemorating the day when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the UDHR in 1948. The UDHR is a landmark document, which proclaims the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being - regardless of race, color, religion, s*x, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.

Today, the Philippine Commission on Women observes the National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC). Our office goes orange as we lead the Advocacy Initiative, now on its 7th season! As an optimistic color, orange represents hope and a brighter future free from violence against women and girls. Kasali ka sa adbokasiya! Samahan niyo kami sa "Safe Spaces, Kasali Tayo" Online Events bilang pakiki-isa sa 2021 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women! Sa kick-off ceremony sa darating na November 25, abangan ang mga ilulunsad na kampanya ukol sa Safe Spaces Act at alamin ang mga karapatan at tungkulin sa ilalim ng batas na ito. Sa December 3, ating pag-usapan ang gender-based s*xual harassment sa pampublikong lugar at online. Ipapaliwanag naman sa December 10 ang proseso at mekaso ng pang-aabuso sa trabaho o paaralan.
