One of the Philippines' rare and endangered true mangrove species, ๐˜พ๐™–๐™ข๐™ฅ๐™ฉ๐™ค๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™š๐™ข๐™ค๐™ฃ ๐™ฅ๐™๐™ž๐™ก๐™ž๐™ฅ๐™ฅ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™š๐™ฃ๐™จ๐™ž๐™จ - locally known as ๐˜จ๐˜ข๐˜ฑ๐˜ข๐˜ด-๐˜จ๐˜ข๐˜ฑ๐˜ข๐˜ด - continues to thrive in the mangrove forests of San-Isidro, Pilar, Cebu.

During our recent field documentation, our team was delighted to confirm healthy populations of this remarkable species in San-Isidro, Pilar. Even more encouraging, we also documented its presence in Barangay Dapdap and Barangay Esperanza (DEMSAMAR area), highlighting the ecological significance of these mangrove ecosystems.

As an endangered species, Camptostemon philippinensis faces threats from habitat degradation, coastal development, and the loss of mangrove forests. Every surviving population is a valuable reminder of why protecting our remaining mangrove habitats is more important than ever.

Mangroves are more than just treesโ€”they protect our coastlines from erosion and storm surges, serve as nurseries for fish and other marine life, store significant amounts of carbon, and support the biodiversity that sustains our communities.

Let us continue working together to conserve these rare ecosystems and ensure that future generations of Pilaranons can witness the beauty and importance of our native mangrove species.

Our final assessment site, Barangay San Isidro, captured our attention with its remarkable mangrove diversity. Unlike the other assessment areas, San Isidro is home to several rare and ecologically significant mangrove species, highlighting its exceptional biodiversity and conservation value.

Among the notable discoveries were the endangered ๐˜พ๐™–๐™ข๐™ฅ๐™ฉ๐™ค๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™š๐™ข๐™ค๐™ฃ ๐™ฅ๐™๐™ž๐™ก๐™ž๐™ฅ๐™ฅ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™š๐™ฃ๐™จ๐™ž๐™จ, ๐˜ผ๐™š๐™œ๐™ž๐™˜๐™š๐™ง๐™–๐™จ ๐™›๐™ก๐™ค๐™ง๐™ž๐™™๐™ช๐™ข, ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™ ๐™Š๐™จ๐™—๐™ค๐™ง๐™ฃ๐™ž๐™– ๐™ค๐™˜๐™ฉ๐™ค๐™™๐™ค๐™ฃ๐™ฉ๐™–โ€”species that are rarely encountered in other sites.
