Strengthening the Implementation of E.A.R.T.H. and ARAL Reading Programs in DJALMNHS through CID GIYA v.3
To support the Division’s ongoing commitment to enhancing literacy among learners, the Curriculum Implementation Division (CID) of the Division of Davao del Norte rolled out CID GIYA v.3 in the Talaingod District on October 14, 2025, in accordance with Division Memorandum CID-2025-0975.
The activity primarily aimed to reinforce foundational reading skills, monitor classroom implementation, and extend technical assistance to schools in their literacy initiatives. It also sought to evaluate instructional practices, gather relevant data on learners’ reading performance, and identify key areas for improvement to strengthen the delivery of reading instruction at all levels.
Leading the initiative was Dr. Ronnie A. Publico, Public Schools District Supervisor of New Corella District, together with the School Heads of Talaingod District. The team visited classrooms to observe reading sessions, interact with teachers, and provide constructive feedback on strategies being used to improve literacy outcomes. The observations revealed an increasing number of low-emerging and frustration-level readers at the beginning of the school year, which became the basis for providing targeted support and interventions.
During the visit, the CID team provided technical guidance on maximizing instructional time for reading and improving teaching pedagogy. Teachers were also capacitated to adopt innovative and context-based reading strategies aligned with the school’s flagship program, the E.A.R.T.H. Reading Program, and the national ARAL Program (National Learning Recovery Program). Both programs are designed to address learning gaps and promote sustained literacy progress through differentiated instruction, close learner monitoring, and consistent teacher mentoring.
Datu Jose A. Libayao Memorial High School was recognized for its commitment to the Department of Education’s thrust of eliminating non-readers. The combined implementation of the E.A.R.T.H. and ARAL Programs has its goal to have a significant increase in the number of independent readers by the end of the school year. School Head Ruel C. Lugatiman expressed profound gratitude to the teachers, led by School Reading Coordinator Caren Mae P. Orlandez, for their diligence, collaboration, and proper documentation in sustaining the school’s reading initiatives.
The success of the activity underscored the value of teamwork and shared accountability among the CID team, district leaders, and classroom teachers. Their collective effort—supported by parents and community stakeholders—continues to enhance learners’ reading performance and overall academic growth.
The monitoring concluded with interactive reading activities for selected learners and a post-conference together with our School Head for overall technical assistance to improve the learning delivery to our students. The event served as a reaffirmation of the Division’s vision to cultivate a community of lifelong readers and learners, upholding the guiding principle: “Basta DAVNOR, Excellence is the Core.”
