In solidarity with Palestinians on Yawm al-Ard (يَوْم اَلْأَرْض) or Land Day, Ateneo 4 Palestine – Davao (A4P) demanded justice amid escalating global conflicts through an interfaith dialogue.
Against the backdrop of the US and Israel’s joint war on Palestine and Iran, the call was further emboldened when the Israeli parliament re-introduced death penalty targeting Palestinians exclusively, which Israel had previously abolished in 1954.

As a symbolic act of participation in the Great March of Return, Ateneo for Palestine–Davao (A4P-Davao) organized an interfaith gathering at the Gazebo Grounds earlier this afternoon to commemorate Palestinian Land Day (Yawm al-Ard). Students from Ateneo de Davao University came together in solidarity to call for peace, justice, and liberation in Palestine and across all oppressed nations.
Land Day holds a significant importance in Palestinian collective memory as a reminder of the brutality of the Zionist-"Israel" occupation in Palestine. We honor this day not just in solidarity with the people of Palestine, but also with the people from other peoples of the world who have also waged resistance against foreign oppression and exploitation-from Iran to Palestine, from Philippines to Venezuela, from Africa to Asia.
We stand in solidarity with all peoples in occupied and colonized lands. We affirm that the resistance of the landless and the oppressed is both just and necessary. Resistance shines most vividly in Palestine, inspiring peoples everywhere to continue their struggles for land, dignity, and self-determination.

We entered 2026 with the capture of Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro by the Trump Administration. While Palestine recovers from the outbreak of genocide, U.S.-Israel is now attacking Iran and the Middle East with no signs of backing down. Destabilization caused by conflicts and wars have brutally terrorized peoples in various parts of the world, including Sudan, Congo, Cuba, India, Myanmar, and the Philippines.
As a symbolic participation of Palestinian Land Day, we invite all Ateneans to an 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗔𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗚𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 tomorrow to call for peace, justice, and liberation in Palestine and all oppressed nations of the world.

A4P-DAVAO IN THE NEWS: A4P-Davao Convener Allena Sofia de Castro slammed the imperialistic actions of the United States (US) and Israel in Latin America, the Middle East, and even in the Philippines itself, which resulted in irreversible consequences concerning innocent human lives in exchange for maintaining their global hegemony.

Ateneo 4 Palestine - Davao strongly condemns the ongoing U.S. and Israeli attacks against Iran
In the morning of February 28, U.S.-Israeli airstrikes hit military targets and civilian areas of Tehran, destroying infrastructure and injuring civilians. This was then followed by more airstrikes in the areas of Qom, Khorramabad, Isfahan, Tabriz, Kermanshah, Ilam, Lorestan, and Karaj.
Israel civilians have been killed in the strikes. As of writing, death toll in Iran stands at 1,045 since bombings started last week, with reports of schools such as the Minab Elementary Schools being hit are especially grave. Civilian infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, power grids, and water systems are protected under international humanitarian law, yet modern air campaigns repeatedly damage these sites, whether directly or through blast radius and infrastructure collapse.
This form of imperialist aggression destabilized entire regions while corporations profit from arms sales and reconstruction contracts. Since 2001, the United States has spent trillions of dollars on military operations across West Asia and North Africa and other conflict zones. Meanwhile, Zionist-backed defense contractors have posted record profits during periods of heightened conflict. The global arms trade exceeds hundreds of billions of dollars annually, with the US and Israel among major exporters. War becomes profitable for corporations even as it devastates communities on the ground. The ordinary people gains nothing from this violence.
Ateneo 4 Palestine - Davao strongly condemns the ongoing U.S. and Israeli attacks against Iran. This war is not fought in the name of peace, as Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu may tout in their propaganda. It is fought to maintain imperialist and bureaucrat-capitalist systems of control, resource extraction, and geopolitical power. What is happening now in Iran and the rest of the Middle East is an escalation of what they started in Palestine in an effort to hegemonize control over the region. Working people, students, and families from Palestine to Iran pay the price for decisions made by Zionist-backed political and military elites.
We stand with the people of Iran, and we call for an immediate cessation of military strikes, adherence to international humanitarian law, and join in the call of global solidarity with the Iranian people.

Remembering Al Aqsa Flood: Beacon of Resistance in Palestine and All Over the World
On this day, October 7, we mark the second anniversary of the Al-Aqsa Flood operation — a decisive stand against U.S.-Zionist occupation and a powerful symbol of global resistance to imperialism. The operation shattered the myth of Israeli invincibility and reaffirmed that oppressed peoples will always rise in pursuit of freedom.
For over 75 years, Palestinians have endured ethnic cleansing and U.S.-backed Israeli aggression. Since October 7, 2023, Israel has intensified its genocidal campaign — killing more than 65,000 Palestinians through relentless bombardment, shelling, and ground assaults. Entire families have been annihilated, while hundreds of thousands remain buried beneath rubble or are being starved to death under a deliberate siege.
This genocide is not an isolated atrocity but a continuation of imperialist warfare — an attack designed to erase a people and crush all resistance to U.S. domination. Israel functions as a forward base of U.S. imperialism, exporting its machinery of repression across the globe. From the testing grounds of Gaza to the far reaches of the Global South, Israeli arms, technology, and training fuel fascist violence — including here in the Philippines, where state forces employ Israeli weapons and surveillance systems to suppress movements for national and social liberation.
Yet the Palestinian struggle persists, rooted in the unyielding spirit of self-determination. Their resistance has ignited a worldwide movement against genocide and imperialism. Across continents, peoples are rising to demand justice and to hold complicit governments accountable. Some nations have cut ties or ended arms deals, while anti-imperialist countries such as Iran and Yemen stand firm in confronting Zionist aggression as part of a broader resistance to U.S. hegemony.
Meanwhile, the arrest of Greta Thunberg and activists during the Global Sumud Flotilla stands as a stark and contrasting reminder of how world leaders and nation-states continue to turn a blind eye to imperialist violence. As they criminalize solidarity and suppress dissent, they expose their complicity in sustaining the very systems of oppression that Palestinians and other peoples are fighting to dismantle.
Ateneo for Palestine – Davao stands firmly with the Palestinian people and all who resist imperialist aggression. Neutrality in the face of genocide is complicity. We call upon our fellow Ateneans and countrymen to take a stand — not only in solidarity with Palestine but in the broader struggle to end imperialism and fascism everywhere. Our liberation is bound together; our fight is one.
Together, we raise the banner of collective resistance — to put an end to genocide, fascism, and imperialism in all their forms. We call for the unity of the toiling masses across nations, who bear the weight of exploitation and war, to lead the struggle for genuine liberation. The fight for Palestine is the fight of all oppressed peoples: a fight for life against empire, for freedom against domination, and for a world built on justice and solidarity. Until the U.S.-backed Zionist genocide is defeated and the peoples of the world are free — we will not stand down.

Ateneo 4 Palestine - Davao Convener Allena Sofia de Castro historicized the complacency of the Philippines in the creation and its eventual genocide of the US-Imperialism backed Israel. De Castro also emphasized the economic complacency and parallelism of the Philippines in the funding of the killings of both the Palestinians and the IPs and Moro.
“The struggle of the Palestinian and poor people is a shared quest for self-determination. The oppression of the U.S.-Marcos regime of the Moros and Muslim Filipinos is not different from the oppression of the U.S.-Israelis of the Palestinians,” she declared.
“The occupation and genocide in Palestine is a manifestation of the brutalities of imperialism, where the lives of civilians mean little to nothing for as long as they can monopolize the national resources of the land through their genocide.”

The Film 𝑊ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑂𝑙𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑇𝑟𝑒𝑒𝑠 𝑊𝑒𝑒𝑝 is a documentary that follows the lives of the Palestinians navigating their everyday lives amidst the US-Imperialism backed Israeli occupation. The film was made prior to the Al Aqsa flood of October 7, 2023 and became a reminder that the occupation and genocide of the Palestinians did not start on October of 2023.
The Film Screening exhibited artworks from the youth of Barangay 23-C and included reactors from different lenses of analysis, experiences, and struggles. Wherein it ultimately advances the parallelism of the struggle and resistance of the Moro and IPs of the Philippines and the Palestinians.
The Film is a testament to the historical struggle and resistance of the Palestinians. Through this film, we begin to see the complacency of our government in funding the genocide in Palestine and the devastating effects of US Imperialism funding proxy wars in the global south and orchestrating the very creation of Israel.
In the words of Ashira Darwish, ‘Please do not put penny on the bullets that shoot our children.’ But we already are. We are sustaining genocide in Palestine without even realizing it.”
