Last May 21, 2026, the Local Youth Development Office conducted SK: Kontra Droga at the LGU Don Marcelino Evacuation Center, bringing together twenty-three (23) student leaders from the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) of Don Marcelino National High School and Lawa National High School.
Implemented in partnership with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and with the support of the Sangguniang Kabataan Municipal Federation, the activity provided participants with a deeper understanding of illegal drugs, their effects, the progression of drug involvement, and the consequences that substance abuse can have on individuals, families, and communities.
Recognizing the role of youth leaders as positive influences within their schools, the activity was intentionally conducted with a smaller group of participants to encourage meaningful discussions, active participation, and a more engaging learning environment. This approach allowed participants to openly share insights, ask questions, and reflect on issues affecting young people today.
Beyond the lecture sessions, participants took part in interactive activities that challenged them to examine real-life situations, identify risk and protective factors, and demonstrate appropriate responses to peer pressure and other circumstances that may place young people at risk.
The discussions were facilitated by IO2 Winchelle Lou Lopez of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Local Youth Development Office, with valuable insights also shared by IA V Fe M. Fuertes, Provincial Officer of PDEA Davao Occidental, whose contributions further enriched the learning experience of the participants.
Through activities such as SK: Kontra Droga, the Municipality of Don Marcelino continues to invest in youth leadership and prevention efforts by equipping young people with the knowledge, awareness, and decision-making skills needed to become responsible individuals and positive influences within their respective schools and communities.
