PRIDE OF GENERAL MACARTHUR: SHOWCASING DISASTER PREPAREDNESS AT EV PAGSANYOG 2026!

General MacArthur stands tall in the regional spotlight! Our municipality proudly took center stage during the EV PAGSANYOG 2026: Voice of Good Governance, held last October 5 at the Summit Hotel, Tacloban City, led by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region VIII.

Out of all LGUs across Eastern Visayas, the Municipality of General MacArthur was distinctively featured for our exemplary and innovative practices in Disaster Preparedness—a testament to our proactive stance, resilience, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding every Macarthurian.

This milestone is a collective victory made possible through the visionary leadership of our Local Chief Executive, Hon. Mayor Joel Baldo , the relentless dedication of our Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (MDRRM) Office headed by Ma'am Maria Josefina Corre, and the steadfast guidance of our MLGOO, Ma'am Maria Rowena G. Macapañas-Estor.

Above all, this recognition belongs to the whole LGU General MacArthur family and our resilient constituents - every school, barangay officials, and every family, whose cooperation and community spirit continue to drive our local governance forward.

As DILG Regional Director Arnel M. Agabe aptly noted during the event, true innovation is built to be shared, adapted, and transformed into better public service. We share this honor with the rest of the region as we celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the Local Government Code and Local Government Month!

LOOK | October 6, 2026 - The Municipality of General MacArthur, Eastern Samar is successfully celebrating Elderly Filipino Week 2026 at the Public Plaza, guided by the inspiring theme, "Nakatatandang Pilipino: May Halaga at Karapatan, May Boses at Ambag sa Bayan." The festive gathering brought together our beloved senior citizens, local officials, and community members for a meaningful day of recognition, cultural presentations, and shared camaraderie.

The memorable celebration featured an engaging program including special messages, the distribution of assistive devices, inclusive voter's education, and vibrant performances that truly highlighted the vital role and ongoing contributions of our elderly in nation-building. It was a wonderful opportunity to honor their wisdom, celebrate their rights, and reaffirm our deep community support for their continued well-being.

DOST-PAGASA warns of an intensifying Very Strong El Niño through the first half of 2027.

A Strong El Niño is currently active in the Tropical Pacific and is expected to intensify into a Very Strong El Niño between September–December 2026, potentially persisting through the first half of 2027.

For the Philippines, this may bring warmer temperatures and below-normal rainfall, increasing the risk of dry spells, drought, and water supply stress that could affect agriculture, food security, energy, public health, and the economy.

However, El Niño does not mean that rain will completely stop. The ongoing Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and active tropical cyclones may still bring short-term heavy rainfall, particularly over the western sections of the country.

Prepare for prolonged dryness, but remain vigilant for episodes of heavy rainfall.
