For parents, discovering that their child requires complex brain or spinal surgery can be overwhelming, especially when the necessary care feels financially out of reach.Bringing this advanced surgical interventions for hydrocephalus, spina bifida, and Chiari malformation directly to a local government hospital, this initiative brought world-class healthcare straight to the doorsteps of General Santos City families who needed it most.
The mission owes its success to the seamless collaboration between our visiting experts and our dedicated local team. Heartfelt thanks go to GenSanโs own pediatric neurosurgeon, Dr. Manilyn Ann Hong, for anchoring this effort locally, and to the specialized team of doctors who traveled to join the mission:: Dr. Patricia Clerkin, Dr. Phillip Aldana, Dr. Carmina Aldana, Dr. James Mercado, Dr. Raymund Gagwis, Dr. Jun Mirabueno, Dr. Robert Mariano, Dr. Rhea Miguel, Dr. Ralph Anislag, and Dr. Kay Colleen V. Arancon. This elite team worked hand-in-hand with the DJPRCH nursing staff, who provided tireless, dedicated bedside care under the capable guidance of Chief Nurse Dr. Joann Sienes. The entire mission was made possible through the administrative vision and steady leadership of Chief of Hospital Dr. Ryan Oscar Aplicador, MD, and Chief of Clinics Dr. Kliendio Rovillos, MD, who ensured the hospital's facilities and staff were fully prepared for these intricate procedures.
Ultimately, this milestone is a beautiful reminder of what can be achieved when a community unites for its children. We extend our deepest gratitude to the GenSan Local Government Unit (LGU), through the leadership of Honorable Mayor Lorelie Geronimo Pacquiao, for their enduring support of vital health initiatives. We are equally grateful to the Neurosurgery Outreach Foundation (NOF) and Rotary International, led by Dr. Edwin Valencia, whose partnership and resources helped turn this vision into tangible healing. Beyond the successful surgeries, this outreach has given local families a renewed sense of hope and healthier future.

DJPRCH Welcomes Tampakan Delegation for Strategic Benchmarking Mission
May 11, 2026||The Dr. Jorge P. Royeca City Hospital (DJPRCH) recently opened its doors to a delegation from the Municipality of Tampakan for a benchmarking activity focused on optimizing hospital operations and management.
Led by Municipal Councilor Michael Escobillo, alongside Mr. Miguel Distura and Mr. Erwin Tumulto, RN, the visiting group sought to study the operational framework of DJPRCH as a successful Local Economic Enterprise of General Santos City. This collaboration highlights the hospital's commitment to fostering regional partnerships and supporting the development of healthcare facilities in neighboring localities.
Dr. Ryan Oscar M. Aplicador, Chief of Hospital, warmly accommodated the visitors and facilitated a comprehensive exchange of expertise regarding the complexities of running a government-owned facility with fiscal autonomy. The delegation engaged with key department heads, including Dr. Kliendio Rovillos, Chief of Clinics; Mr. Roland Rene Gonzales, Administrative Officer V; Dr. Joann Sienes, Chief Nurse; and Ms. Mary Jean Montenegro, Accounting Officer. Together with the rest of the hospital team, these leaders generously shared their collective knowledge, practical experiences, and proven best practices in public health administration.
The benchmarking mission proved to be an invaluable learning experience, specifically designed to support the ongoing improvement and strategic growth of the Tampakan General Hospital. By examining the synergy between clinical governance and financial sustainability at DJPRCH, the Tampakan representatives gained critical insights into strengthening their own institutional initiatives.
The exchange focused on how streamlined administrative processes and robust nursing management can elevate the overall standard of patient care while maintaining operational efficiency.
Expressing their sincere gratitude for the hospitality shown by the DJPRCH management, the delegation noted that the support and insights provided would serve as a vital guide for their future operations. Through such collaborative efforts, both institutions move closer to their goal of providing efficient, high-quality medical services to their respective communities.
