𝗡𝗦𝗔𝗣-𝗫𝗜𝗜 𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝟭𝟭𝗧𝗛 𝗙𝗜𝗦𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗦 𝗦𝗖𝗜𝗖𝗢𝗡

The National Stock Assessment Program-XII proudly participated in the “Poster Presentation” during the 11th Fisheries Scientific Conference held at Clark, Pampanga on September 24–25, 2025.

The team showcased valuable research contributions highlighting the stock status in Fisheries Management Area 3 (FMA 3) through the following studies:

1️⃣ Stock Status of Mackerel Scad (Decapterus macarellus) in FMA 3
2️⃣ Stock Status of Bigeye Scad (Selar crumenophthalmus) in FMA 3

This participation underscores NSAP-XII’s commitment to advancing science-based fisheries management and supporting sustainable utilization of our marine resources.

𝟯 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟭𝟭𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗖𝗼𝗻!

And since we are on the number 3, did you know that the 3-month closed fishing season in Northern Palawan is based on the National Stock Assessment Program (NSAP) results?

Implemented from November 1 to January 31, the policy is a science-based measure that protects fish during peak spawning, allowing adults to reproduce and juveniles to grow, ensuring regeneration, sustainability, and long-term stock availability.

𝗡𝗦𝗔𝗣-𝗫𝗜𝗜: 𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝗣𝗔𝗚𝗘𝗦

NSAP-12 conducted a Fish Landing Center Monitoring and Photo Documentation Activity at Alabel Community Fish Landing Center. This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts to develop a comprehensive Fish Guide Handbook—aimed at improving species identification and promoting sustainable fisheries management across the region. As well as interviewing local fisherfolk to be able to understand more about their way of fishing, specifically the fishing gear used.

We're proud to share that two of NSAP-XII's research papers have been approved for poster presentations at the esteemed 11th Fisheries Scientific Conference in Mabalacat, Pampanga!

2️⃣ Stock Status of Mackerel Scad (Decapterus macarellus) in Fisheries Management Area (FMA) 3

This accomplishment demonstrates their steadfast dedication to research excellence, sustainable marine resource use, and science-based fisheries management approach in Region 12.

The National Stock Assessment Program-XII attended the "Training on Stock Assessment Methods" at Tacloban City from September 2 to 5, 2025.

The training strengthened their technical skills in data collection and analysis and enhanced knowledge to better support sustainable fisheries management. Also, writing and revising their scientific papers wherein they received critiques from their assigned resource person.

NSAP-XII had actively participated in the 25th National Tuna Congress held at General Santos City, contributing as part of the Food and Accommodation Committee wherein our team worked behind the scenes to help ensure the comfort and well-being of all delegates and participants.

It’s always a privilege to contribute to events that champion the growth and sustainability of the tuna industry. Kudos to everyone who made this gathering a success.

The National Stock Assessment Program-12 (NSAP-XII) participated in the "Training on Scientific Writing" in San Fernando, Pampanga, from August 26 to 29, 2025.

One of the highlights of the program was writing and revising the scientific papers of each region, wherein the participants received insightful knowledge and critiques from their resource person to improve the logical flow of their scientific papers and perfect the art of precision.

Together, let’s continue fostering a culture of research excellence.

The NSAP-XII officially kicked off the photo documentation activity for the creation of Fish Guide Handbook for Region 12 at the General Santos City Public Market from August 11 to 15, 2025.

This initiative aims to develop a comprehensive and user-friendly reference to support in providing a solid foundation of knowledge in fish identification and biology of various fishes found in Region 12 and empower communities through accessible information.

Together, we’re working towards a more informed and responsible use of our aquatic resources in Region 12.
