In 2024, Iloilo City (61.70) and Bacolod City (34.42) post the highest infant mortality rates in the region for 2024 — largely because these highly urbanized cities host referral hospitals managing the most complex, high-risk neonatal cases from nearby provinces.

Strengthening family planning and maternal care access across all provinces helps give every baby a healthy start. 👶💙

Infant mortality rose to 12.73 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2024 — still below the SDG target of 25, but an uptick worth monitoring after the dip in 2022.

𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗡𝗨𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥𝗦: Good news! Region VI's modern contraceptive prevalence rate rose to 44.9% in 2025, now slightly above the national average of 44.5%. This means more couples are accessing modern, safe, and effective family planning methods.

ILOILO CITY — The Commission on Population and Development (CPD) Region VI in partnership with Iloilo Science University of Fisheries, Science and Technology (ISUFST) conducted the Capacity Development on the Regional Population and Development (RPD) Database for Western Visayas (Batch 4) on August 18–20, 2026 at the Grand Xing Imperial Hotel, Iloilo City.

The three-day capacity development activity aims to strengthen the knowledge and competencies of local population officers, workers, and designated personnel on the RPD Database, including its modules, features, and data entry processes.

The activity also seeks to standardize data collection and reporting protocols among regional line agencies, local government units (LGUs), and partner institutions to promote data consistency, reliability, and comparability.

Through the rollout of the RPD Database as an online data management and visualization platform, CPD Region VI aims to enhance access to population and development information and strengthen data-sharing and coordination among stakeholders toward evidence-based decision-making and development planning in Western Visayas.
