The Sangguniang Bayan of Asipulo has asked Ifugao Rep. Solomon R. Chungalao to file and sponsor a bill declaring Jan. 13 of every year a special nonworking holiday in the municipality to mark its founding anniversary.

In Resolution No. 2025-207, the SB said that the proposed holiday would allow residents to participate in anniversary celebrations, cultural activities and community gatherings.

The SB also said establishing an annual holiday through legislation would ensure its consistent observance and remove the need for yearly renewal.

The Sangguniang Bayan said they and the Municipal Government will provide supporting documents, historical data and coordination to help advance the proposed legislation.

The resolution will be sent to the Provincial Governor’s Office, the Department of the Interior and Local Government Ifugao Field Office and the National Historical Commission of the Philippines for their information, endorsement and support.

Asipulo was created through Republic Act No. 7173, signed into law on Jan. 13, 1992, separating it from Kiangan, Ifugao. #

Liwon may be Asipulo’s youngest barangay, but it has already earned multiple awards in nutrition, disaster risk reduction and other areas of local governance. It is also the second barangay in the municipality to receive the Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangays (SGLGB).

Once a special economic zone of Amduntog, Liwon became a separate barangay following a plebiscite on March 24, 2018. Its achievements reflect the collective efforts of its officials, community workers and residents in building a responsive barangay government.

Today, its elective and appointive officials continue to work with the community to improve basic services, strengthen disaster preparedness and address the needs of its sitios. These efforts show how a young barangay can make its mark through committed leadership and active community participation.

Cawayan is the first barangay in Asipulo to have an Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR) in its Sangguniang Barangay. This milestone gives indigenous communities a dedicated voice in barangay decisions, helping bring their concerns, customary practices and development priorities into local governance.

Its history as a separate barangay dates back to 1962, when it was created from Antipolo under the Municipality of Kiangan. Today, its elective and appointive officials continue the work of earlier leaders, serving communities whose livelihoods are closely tied to farming.

Together with residents and community partners, Cawayan’s officials work to improve basic services and address the needs of its sitios. Indigenous representation adds to this shared responsibility of ensuring that community voices help shape the barangay’s direction.

P**a’s local governance history began when it was still part of Antipolo under Kiangan. In 1969, Bommoliad Dulnuan initiated its separation from the mother barangay and became its first barangay captain following its creation through Resolution No. 20, series of 1969.

Home to Keley-i, Kalanguya and Ayangan communities, P**a carries a history of settlement and intermarriage that helped bring its people together. Its development plan associates the barangay’s name with the reddish clay soil found in the area.

Today, its elective and appointive officials work with residents, health workers and community organizations to address the needs of its sitios. Health and nutrition form part of this shared work, with the barangay’s development plan noting recognition for its implementation of these programs.

The “young once” of Asipulo turned out in force once again as senior citizens from across the municipality gathered at the Municipal Gymnasium in Neduntog, Antipolo today, October 29, for the 2026 Municipal Senior Citizens Assembly.

Bannered by the theme “Nakatatandang Pilipino: May Halaga at Karapatan, May Boses at Ambag sa Bayan,” the gathering celebrated the contributions of senior citizens and their continuing role in community development. Ifugao Board Member Jaweh Habbiling graced the occasion as guest speaker.

In his inspirational message, Municipal Mayor Archie Lee A. Quindo emphasized how the Municipal Government values its senior citizens.

“We recognize your sacrifices and contributions to the development of our municipality. We want you to remain healthy, active and participative in your organizations and in our community. Today, we celebrate and honor you for all that you have contributed and continue to contribute to Asipulo,” Mayor Quindo said.

During the assembly, Nelly Cuyahon of the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) presented the accomplishment report on senior citizen welfare programs. An open forum also provided participants an opportunity to raise concerns and discuss matters affecting their sector.
