COLLAPSED STRUCTURE SEARCH AND RESCUE OPENING CEREMONY WITH EAGER BEAVER COMMANDING OFFICER

LA PAZ, ILOILO CITY, Iloilo --- Army reservists from 604th Ready Reserve Infantry (Kaupod) Battalion joined the Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue Training (CSSRT) Class 01-2024 opening ceremony today, November 9, 2024 at Headquarters, 604th Community Defense Center, Magsaysay Village, La Paz, Iloilo City, Iloilo.

LTC Jessie Rose B. Austria, commanding officer of 552nd Engineer (Eager Beaver) Construction Battalion and Guest of Honor and Speaker of the ceremony, was warmly welcomed by the director of 604CDC, LTC Ryan S. Matutina, and accompanied by LTC Noel I. Parcon, Battalion Commander of 604RRIBn.

LTC Matutina introduced the reservist officers to the GOHAS and went they went to the conference hall for a cup of coffee.
The 5 reservist officers and 45 enlisted reservists rise upon the arrival of the GOHAS to the ceremony area together with the officers.

The activity gives all the glory to the almighty as Master Sgt. Julie T. Barrato, chief clerk of 604CDC, delivers his prayer, followed by the Philippine national anthem.

LTC Parcon delivers his welcome remarks as he appreciates the spirit of volunteerism of his troops, who will undergo the CSSRT as one of the necessary trainings in the urban area, and to the GOHAS for her valuable time and resources to make the event possible.

Fifty strong participants were presented by Technical Sgt. Fernando R. Villanueva, operations NCO of 604CDC, requesting the CSSRT to declare open to Lt. Col. Matutina.

LTC Matutina formally declares and opens the CSSRT Class 01-2024 and reiterates to the participants to take the training seriously in order to be confident to take action when disaster or calamity strikes.

LTC Matutina introduced the guest of honor and speaker to the participants, citing her career highlights and accomplishments until she became the Commanding Officer of the 552ECB, 53EBde, PA.

LTC Austria acknowledges all officers and enlisted personnel who are present in the ceremony before she delivers her inspirational message to the troops.

She recalls completing the CSSRT last June 2002 as her first training when she was assigned to the 51st Engineer Brigade, where they were the first two females who graduated the training.

LTC Austria encouraged the participants in taking the different search and rescue trainings and explained that the specializations are different but the basics are all the same on how to rescue an individual and save lives.

She stated, "The life of the army engineers, army reservists is not just one of duty but of profound responsibility. Today, you will be given a journey to sharpen your skills, deepen your knowledge, and enhance your ability to respond swiftly and effectively towards disasters threats. This training is not merely on techniques and tactics. It is about embodying the spirit of service and sacrifice that defines our reservists. You will learn to navigate to the chaos. Make critical decisions under pressure and work cohesively as a team and save lives and restore hope. You are privilege to have among us instructors from my unit. the 552 Engineer Construction Battalion headed by Cpt. Braga. Their guidance will be invaluable as compared to the complexities in search and rescue operations. T our instructors, thank you for the dedication and commitment to training to the next generations of heroes. To the participants, your presence here is a testament of courage and dedication. As we embark to this course, let us commit learning from one another. Support each other and pushing our limits. The skills and knowledge you gain here will not make only your selves as better rescuers but we also strengthen the fabric of our community. In closing, let us remember that our missions goes beyond training grounds."

She added an Ilokano term, "Agyamanak" that means thank you for the sacrifices made by the reservists instead of going to the beach or hiking during the weekend but choosing to serve the people.

The giving of a certificate of appreciation and token follows after Pvt 1st Class Jessaveil Rose T. Faro reads the citation of the certificate.

The program ends with the singing of "Awit Kawal" and "Pilipinas kong Mahal" and a photo opportunity with the GOHAS and proceeds to the boodle fight lunch.
