Iloilo City Gender and Development (GAD) Office Joins KABALAKA EXPO 2026

The Iloilo City Gender and Development Office, together with the TALATAPAN Child Development Center, proudly participated in KABALAKA EXPO 2026, showcasing initiatives that promote disaster preparedness, child safety, resilience, and community empowerment.

One of our featured best practices was the Trash to Cash Project, an initiative that encourages environmental stewardship, proper waste segregation, recycling, and resource generation while fostering responsibility among children, parents, and the community.

Visitors also enjoyed our interactive exhibit featuring earthquake preparedness demonstrations, educational displays, and engaging learning activities that highlighted the importance of disaster risk reduction and climate resilience. Through these meaningful initiatives, we continue to empower children and families with knowledge and practical skills to build safer, more resilient, and gender-responsive communities.

Together, let us continue creating communities where preparedness, sustainability, inclusivity, and resilience become everyone’s responsibility.

Nutrition Month Celebration at TALATAPAN Child Development Center

Today, the TALATAPAN Child Development Center successfully conducted a Storytelling Activity in partnership with the Nutrition Council as part of the Nutrition Month Celebration. The activity provided our young learners with an engaging and interactive learning experience, promoting the importance of proper nutrition, healthy eating habits, and positive values through storytelling.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Nutrition Council for their valuable support and commitment to nurturing healthy, informed, and empowered children. Together, we continue to inspire our young learners to grow, learn, and embrace a healthy lifestyle.

HIV SYMPOSIUM AND SAFE SPACES ACT ORIENTATION HELD IN BALABAGO, JARO

A meaningful gathering focused on health awareness and inclusive community protection took place in Barangay Balabago, Jaro, bringing together residents, local leaders, and partner organizations for an educational and empowering event. Spearheaded in partnership with the Family Planning Organization of the Philippines (FPOP) – Iloilo Chapter and the LGBTQ Affairs Office, the activity combined an informative HIV Symposium and a comprehensive orientation on the Safe Spaces Act.

A representative from FPOP Iloilo Chapter led the discussions, addressing common misconceptions and emphasizing the importance of regular testing and early medical care.

Complementing the health discussions was the orientation of the Safe Spaces Act, officially known as Republic Act 11313. DepEd teacher, Eric Gatin, explained the provisions of the law, which aims to prevent and address gender-based sexual harassment in public spaces, workplaces, educational institutions, and online platforms.

Barangay officials and residents expressed their gratitude for the activity, noting that the topics are highly relevant to their daily lives and the well-being of their community.

By combining health education with legal awareness, the event has taken a significant step toward ensuring that every resident can live safely, confidently, and with dignity.
