ππππ: The Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Group Western Visayas, along with MSIU WV and VCA WV, successfully conducted a Gender Sensitivity Training at Tely's Beach House, East Valencia, Guimaras, from 02 to 04 October 2025.
The training aimed to foster a culture of equity and respect within an organization historically characterized by uniform structures and roles. Its objectives included reducing discrimination and harassment, promoting collaboration to enhance operational efficiency, and ensuring inclusive service delivery particularly during disaster relief and maritime emergency operations.
Personnel from MEP ERG WV, MSIU, and VCA WV participated in the activity. Key topics were presented by representatives from the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) and the Provincial Legal Office of Guimaras. Police Chief Master Sergeant Mary Jean C. Song discussed Republic Act No. 9262, the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act, while Atty. Erika B. Mallorca covered gender sensitivity principles and related legal frameworks, including issues of physical violence, stereotyping, sexual violence, and psychological abuse.
This initiative supports national legislation and international commitments to gender equity. It addresses systemic barriers, empowers female personnel through leadership opportunities and equitable resource allocation, and reinforces the Coast Guardβs operational professionalism. These efforts strengthen organizational cohesion, ensure compliance with anti-discrimination policies, and sustain public trust in the delivery of impartial, mission-critical services.

LOOK: The Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Group Western Visayas (MEP ERG-WV) together with Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Unit (MEP ERU Iloilo) , Coast Guard District Western Visayas (CGDWV) and Operational Control Unit (OPCON-Unit), Marine Science Investigation Unit Western Visayas (MSIU-WV), Vessel Certificate Accreditation Western Visayas (VCA-WV) and Coast Guard Sub-Station Iloilo (CGSS Iloilo) in collaboration with DENR - Environmental Management Bureau Region 6 (EMB-6) simultaneously conducted a Coastal Clean-up activity at Sto. Nino Sur, Arevalo, Iloilo City in connection with the International Coastal Clean-up Day.
The said activity was also participated by Iloilo National High School Faculty and students, Stakeholders, other Local Government Unit, BFP, PNP Maritime, BLGU Sto. NiΓ±o Sur, PCG Auxiliary and students of St Therese MTC College.
A total of 19 sacks equivalent to 111 kg of assorted garbage were collected.

UPDATE: 124th PCG Founding Anniversary Celebration 2025
In line with the celebration of the 124th Founding Anniversary of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Group Western Visayas (MEP ERG WV) through the Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement Response Unit (MEP ERU Capiz), Coast Guard Station Capiz, and SOU Capiz successfully conducted a simultaneous tree planting activity at the Sanitary Landfill, Barangay San Jose, Roxas City, Capiz.
This activity aimed to restore ecological balance, combat climate change, and promote environmental awareness by engaging communities in sustainable reforestation efforts for a greener and healthier planet. Approximately 150 assorted fruit-bearing trees were planted during the event.
The initiative, conducted in partnership with the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Capiz and PETRON Roxas City, highlights the shared responsibility of protecting the environment and fostering a culture of sustainability and stewardship among stakeholders.

Look: The Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Group Western Visayas (MEP ERG-WV) Successfully conducted an Oil Spill Awareness and Emergency Response Training to the personnel of Coast Guard District Western Visayas (CGDWV).
This training was aligned with the Task Force Ingat Yamang Dagat initiative and participated by personnel from CGDWV. This training aims to educate, train and develop each and every PCG Personnel so that they shall possess the necessary knowledge and skills to be competent in protecting and preserving the marine environment and its resources and in enforcing all the marine environmental laws.
The three-day training was held at Coast Guard District Western Visayas Maalab hall. The seminar covered a range of topics, including the Oil Spill Response Assessment Planning, Oil Spill Response Strategies, Oil Spill Response Support Issues as well as conducted actual demonstrations of MARPOL Equipment such as Disc Brush Skimmer, Solid Floatation Boom, Chemical Dispersant and Sorbent Materials.
On the last day, The team conducted a simulation and let the students experience the actual laying of spill booms and introduced the proper way to operate such equipment. The activity was conducted at CGDWV Zone II Bo Obrero, Lapuz Iloilo, City. Further, said actual demonstrations help the personnel acquire a good knowledge and understanding on the topics discussed. It enables them to appreciate deeply the essence and importance of protecting our marine environment as well as the functions of MEPCOM in the PCG organization.
The Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Group β Western Visayas (MEPERG-WV) successfully imparted the necessary knowledge and practical skills related to Marine Environmental Protection specifically in oil spill response operation to Forty Five (45) personnel of Coast Guard District Western Visayas.

UPDATE: TASK FORCE INGAT YAMANG DAGAT
Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Group Western Visayas (MEP ERG-WV) together with Marine Science Investigation Unit Western Visayas ,(MSIU-WV) Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Unit Iloilo (MEP ERU-Iloilo) VesseL Certification and Accreditation (VCA), Coast Guard District Western Visayas (CGDWV), Coast Guard Station Iloilo (CGS Iloilo) and CGSS Iloilo fishing Port Complex (CGSS IFPC) conducted a Coastal Clean-up activity at Sto. NiΓ±o Sur, Arevalo, Iloilo City.
In addition, the said activity was also participated by Local Government Unit (LGU) Arevalo and Brgy Officials of Sto NiΓ±o Arevalo, Iloilo City.
A total of Five Hundred (500) meters of area were covered and a total of Seventeen (17) sacks of assorted garbage were collected and properly disposed at Brgy. Sto NiΓ±o, Arevalo Sur Material Recovery Facility (MRF).

UPDATE: TASK FORCE INGAT YAMANG DAGAT
The Philippine Coast Guard Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Group Western Visayas (MEP ERG-WV) conducted a Mangrove Planting Activity at Ave Maria Islet Marine Reserve and Sanctuary in Sitio Lusay, Brgy. Lawi, Jordan, Guimaras.
As part of the Task Force Ingat Yamang Dagat initiative, a total of120 Bruguiera cylindrica (Pototan, Busain) were planted and participated by 53 participants during the event.
The event aims to provide participants with an understanding of the importance of mangroves to the ecosystem and the community, as well as hands-on experience in ecosystem restoration and conservation through mangrove planting.
With the participation of the Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Unit (MEP ERU) Guimaras, MEP ERU-Iloilo, Coast Guard Sub Station (CGSS) Guimaras, Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO), SK Youth Federation of Jordan Guimaras, Barangay Officials and Bantay Dagat in collaboration with the LGU Jordan, Guimaras, represented by Mr. Jan Felix Balquin, EMS II.
