She has pushed for initiatives integrating cultural mapping into national policy, ensuring that communitiesβ cultural identities are recognized and protected.
Through the Cultural Mapping of Panay, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental, she has called for collaboration between communities, state universities and colleges, local governments, indigenous communities, and other government agencies and stakeholders to ensure that cultural heritage is part of the broader national development narrative.
Legardaβs vision for cultural mapping is not only about preserving the past but also ensuring that future generations can continue to celebrate and learn from their rich cultural legacies.

Another day, another milestone! The Cultural Mapping Panay and Guimaras (CMPG) project celebrated a productive and inspiring 2nd day of validation with community validators from Oton, New Lucena, and Zarraga actively contributing to this endeavor. Their passion for preserving local heritage made every discussion meaningful and every story impactful.
This success would not have been possible without the incredible support of the CMPG UP team, led by the ever-dedicated Maβam Rara Ramirez, with the expertise of UP validators like Maβam Frances Nievales, Maβam Joy, Ramon Ramirez and Arch. Mary Michelle Batayola whose insights truly elevated the process.
Team ISAT-U, spearheaded by the dynamic Eric Dela Vega, brought their A-game with Study Leaders Joselito Mendoza, Ray Jay Palmos, Jureca Failanga, Alfie Neodama, and Marjorie Maido providing unwavering guidance. Of course, a huge shoutout to the hardworking RAs assigned to their respective LGUsβyou are the backbone of this project!
Together, we are weaving the tapestry of Panay and Guimarasβ cultural treasures, ensuring that these stories live on for generations to come. Hereβs to more collaboration, more discoveries, and more reasons to be proud of our roots!

ISAT-U CMPG Team's Monthly Meeting and Writing Marathon
By Che True
What do you get when you put together a group of dedicated cultural mappers, a mountain of mapping forms, and a two-day writing marathon? A blend of intense brainstorming, best practice sharing, and a few too many cups of coffee!
This monthβs ISAT-U CMPG Team meeting was nothing short of a cultural adventure. Under the expert guidance of Mr. Eric De La Vega, we dived deep into the art of Cultural Inventory preservation. Eric, with his knack for turning a meeting into a masterclass, not only ensured we were well-fed (because a well-fed RA is a happy RA) but also imparted invaluable lessons on preserving cultural heritage through thorough cultural mapping. Itβs not every day you get to be pampered and enlightened at the same time!
We had our fair share of challengesβsolving issues and debating the best practices was no easy feat. But, as always, the team rose to the occasion. The collaborative spirit was palpable, with everyone pitching in, sharing insights, and learning from each other. Special shoutout to Ms. Rara of UP Visayas for her unwavering support. Your encouragement kept us going!
To all the ISAT-U CMPG RAs and Study Leaders, a huge kudos to you! Letβs keep the momentum and aim to finish those 65 mapping forms each by the end of this week. Mabuhay ang ating cultural heritage and the incredible team preserving it! Hereβs to the power of teamwork, cultural pride, and a little bit of humor to get us through the busiest of times!

[TANGIBLE IMMOVABLE HERITAGE]
Did you know that public schools in the country house a treasure from the past?
The Gabaldon Building, a historic structure designed by the American architect William E. Parsons, is a testament to early 20th-century Philippine architecture.
Here are three of the Gabaldon Buildings in the Municipality of Igbaras:
(1) Calampitao Elementary School
(2) Igbaras Central Elementary School
(3) Lumangan Elementary School
These buildings not only preserve history but also boost community pride.
The Gabaldon Buildings are protected by Republic Act 11194, also known as the Gabaldon Schools Building Conservation Act, ensuring their preservation through community, provincial, and national conservation measures.
The Cultural Mapping of Panay and Guimaras (CMPG) is a priority program initiative of the Office of the Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda, the principal author of the Cultural Mapping Law or RA 11961.
