The Department of Health โ€“ Center for Health Development SOCCSKSARGEN (DOHโ€“CHD XII), in close collaboration with the Provincial Health Office of Sultan Kudarat, successfully conducted the Orientation Workshop on Lymphatic Filariasis Epidemiological Monitoring Survey (EMS) for the high-burden municipalities of Sultan Kudarat. The activity was held last September 16โ€“19, 2025 at the Eulogia Hotel & Resort Devโ€™t Corporation, General Santos City.

This workshop aimed to strengthen surveillance, monitoring, and evaluation strategies that are essential in sustaining the fight against Lymphatic Filariasis. The sessions provided updated technical knowledge, practical tools, and innovative approaches to further advance our collective goal of elimination.

Key discussions were led by Mr. Royfrextopher P. Boholst, Entomologist III, who presented the Regional LF Situation; Mr. Alexander Taruc, WHO NTD Consultant, who shared insights on the Global Programme to Eliminate LF by 2030; and Ms. Camille Baladjay, RN, who emphasized the importance of community engagement and advocacy in driving local action.

The workshop was further enriched by the presence and active involvement of our dedicated health leadersโ€”Dr. Gina C. Galinato, Provincial Health Officer II; Mr. Abdulrahman M. Siokon, Provincial LF Coordinator; Municipal Health Officers Dr. Marife Aruta and Dr. Ali T. Tumama; and Mr. Bernard Castino, DMO IV of PDOHO Sultan Kudarat. Their guidance and expertise ensured that the learnings will be effectively cascaded and applied in the municipal and community levels.

This milestone highlights the unwavering commitment of Sultan Kudarat in the fight against Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). With strengthened collaboration, science-based strategies, and empowered communities, we move closer to our vision of a Lymphatic Filariasis-free Sultan Kudarat and a Lymphatic Filariasis-free SOCCSKSARGEN.
