SLP, Partners join forces to strengthen livelihoods in Aklan
The Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office VI (DSWD FO 6) continues to strengthen livelihood opportunities in Aklan through collaboration with various partners from the government, academe, private sector, and faith-based organizations.
In Aklan, SLP has formalized partnerships with the 82nd Infantry (Bantay Laya) Battalion of the Philippine Army, Northwestern Panay Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Aklan State University, Northwestern Visayan College, and Department of Trade and Industry.
These institutions work alongside SLP in implementing livelihood projects for identified communities across the province. While coming from different fields and sectors, the partners share a common goal, to help improve the lives of individuals and communities by providing sustainable livelihood opportunities.
As part of their commitment, the partners will provide complementary interventions to support the livelihood projects, including technical and skills training, logistical support, and other forms of assistance based on the needs of the organized associations. They will also work closely with SLP to ensure the proper implementation and monitoring of the projects and help strengthen the capacity of the participants toward the sustainability of their livelihoods.
Through these partnerships, organized associations will implement various livelihood projects intended to benefit both their members and the communities they serve. These include bakery production, integrated agri-aqua production and trading, healthy juice production, seafood processing, egg production, and soy-based food production.
The projects are being implemented under the Program Convergence Budgeting (PCB), with a total grant amount of Php 2,695,921, benefiting 146 participants from the municipalities of Ibajay, Kalibo, Makato, Malinao, New Washington, and Tangalan.
Through collaboration and convergence, SLP and its partners continue to create opportunities that enable communities to build sustainable livelihoods, strengthen local enterprises, and move toward greater economic self-sufficiency./Glory Mae Panase
