Did You Know?

Before the Organic Agriculture Act of 2010, the FPA handled the registration of organic fertilizers and pesticides.

Today, this authority is under the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (BAFS), supporting the country’s growing organic agriculture sector.

The FPA continues to strengthen sustainable and responsible agricultural practices through effective regulation and stewardship. 🌱

A 2007 Supreme Court ruling clarified that the FPA regulates agricultural pesticides, while urban, household, and industrial-use pesticides fall under the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

This distinction strengthened regulatory responsibilities to better protect farmers, consumers, public health, and the environment.

The rise of high-yielding rice and corn varieties in the 1960s greatly increased fertilizer demand across the Philippines.

Urea and ammonium sulfate became among the country’s leading nitrogen fertilizers, while the local industry relied heavily on imported raw materials to support agricultural production.

As agriculture evolved, so did the need for stronger regulation and stewardship of agricultural inputs.

In 1977, Presidential Decree No. 1144 officially created the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA), merging fertilizer and pesticide regulation under one agency to strengthen Philippine agriculture.

For 49 years, the FPA has continued to promote safe, effective, and responsible regulation in support of Filipino farmers, consumers, and the environment. 🌱

FPA Fact!

Before the creation of the FPA, the Fertilizer Industry Authority (FIA) was first established in 1973 to regulate the fertilizer industry.

This became the foundation for stronger agricultural regulation in the country—eventually leading to the creation of the FPA through Presidential Decree No. 1144 in 1977.

Nearly five decades later, the FPA continues to uphold responsible regulation, farmer protection, and environmental stewardship. ✨

Before 1973, the fertilizer industry operated with minimal government regulation. As fertilizer demand rapidly increased, stronger oversight became necessary to ensure proper supply, distribution, and fair pricing nationwide.

This milestone paved the way for the establishment of government regulation in the fertilizer industry—strengthening support for Filipino farmers and Philippine agriculture. 🇵🇭

|| Lumahok ang FPA SOCCSKSARGEN bilang resource person sa Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Training para sa Indigenous Peoples Organizations (IPOs) Farmers na pinangasiwaan ng Mindanao Inclusive Agriculture Development Project (MIADP) XII sa Cotabato, South Cotabato, at General Santos City mula Abril hanggang Mayo 2026.

Layunin ng pagsasanay na mapalawak ang kaalaman at kasanayan ng mga IP farmers sa Good Agricultural Practices upang siguruhin ang kanilang ligtas, de-kalidad, at sustenableng mga produktong pang-agrikultural.

Tinalakay ng FPA SOCCSKSARGEN ang environmental management, kalusugan at kaligtasan sa pagsasaka, at wastong paggamit ng abono at pestisidyo. Ibinahagi rin ang mga impormasyon hinggil sa klasipikasyon ng pestisidyo, Mode of Action (MoA) labeling, pre-harvest interval (PHI), maximum residue limits (MRLs), re-entry period, triple-rinsing, wastong pagtatapon ng mga lalagyan ng pestisidyo, at mga paunang lunas sa pagkalason.

|| Nagsagawa ng monitoring at inspection ang FPA SOCCSKSARGEN sa wastewater facility ng isang pribadong kompanya.

Layunin ng monitoring na matiyak ang pagsunod sa mga alituntunin at regulasyon ng FPA kaugnay sa wastong paggamit at pamamahala ng wastewater. Sinuri rin ang process flow ng aplikasyon at disposal ng wastewater, kabilang ang mga lugar kung saan ito ginagamit o itinatapon, pati ang pagtukoy sa mga beneficial insects, pests, at diseases sa field.

Sa mga ganitong inisyatiba sa pag-iinspeksyon at monitoring, patuloy na pinalalakas ng FPA SOCCSKSARGEN ang monitoring activities upang matiyak ang ligtas at wastong pamamahala ng wastewater sa rehiyon.
