The Department of Trade and Industry โ€“ South Cotabato Provincial Office through Negosyo Center-City of Koronadal, in partnership with the Local Government Unit of the City of Koronadal through the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office, proudly celebrates National Arts Month through Likha at Husay Trade Fair: A Showcase of Local Creative Ingenuity.

Running from February 24 to 28, 2026, at the City Hall Lobby, City of Koronadal, the trade fair highlights an impressive array of creative products across various domains identified under the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act. The event features outstanding works from creative entrepreneurs in the City of Koronadal and neighboring municipalities of South Cotabato. As the provinceโ€™s lone city and one of the major commercial hub in Region XII, Koronadal serves as the ideal venue to spotlight the provinceโ€™s thriving creative sector.

The celebration formally opened with a vibrant cultural showcase featuring performances by local artists and creative groups, complemented by a parade of original fashion pieces by homegrown designers. The opening program set the tone for a powerful convergence of art, culture, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

The event was graced by DTI Region XII Regional Director Flora D. Politud-Gabunales, CESO III, who emphasized in her message that National Arts Month is a celebration of boundless talent and creativity. She underscored that Likha at Husay stands as a testament to how creativity and entrepreneurship can converge to empower communities. She further highlighted that creativity is not merely an artistic expression, but a strategic driver of development, innovation, and inclusive economic growth.

Likha at Husay serves as a one-stop destination for creative excellenceโ€”from traditional crafts and digital arts to artisan coffee and chocolates, and curated gastronomic experienceโ€”demonstrating the depth and diversity of South Cotabatoโ€™s creative industry.

What started as a small venture funded from a student allowance has grown into a thriving snack business for Crisan Mateo Jem T. Supnet, owner of Mabulawanon Crisp Original (MCO). Established on February 18, 2025, MCO manufactures taro chips in a variety of flavors, including Salty, Butter Cheese, and Honey Butter, targeting health-conscious consumers seeking high-fiber, gluten-free snacks.

Supnet, a BSBA student, drew inspiration from local entrepreneurs who turned modest beginnings into successful enterprises. His initial challenges included limited financial capital and manpower, which forced him to self-fund the business from his allowance. Early on, sales were low, and growth was slow.

Through DTIโ€™s programs and services, particularly business matching and trade fairs facilitated by the DTI Negosyo Center, Supnet gained access to new markets and significantly increased its sales. โ€œThe business matching event pushed me to grow fast,โ€ he shared, noting how his production capacity and market reach expanded after engaging with DTI.

Innovation became a key driver for MCOโ€™s growth. From initially using a mandolin to slice taro, Supnet invested in machinery that improved efficiency and product consistency. Despite ongoing challenges such as limited capital and manpower, his focus on innovation and perseverance allowed him to overcome obstacles and steadily scale the business.

Beyond business growth, MCO has become a foundation for Supnetโ€™s personal development. โ€œMy business became the building block of my character development,โ€ he reflected. He advises aspiring entrepreneurs to stay focused on their vision, even when progress seems delayed.

Supnet expressed his gratitude to DTI and the Negosyo Center: โ€œThank you for supporting local entrepreneurs. Even when things get delayed, having your resources available helps us stay focused on the vision. I appreciate the work you do in helping the community 'grind' toward a better future.โ€

With DTIโ€™s continued support, Mabulawanon Crisp Original is poised to expand further, bringing innovative, locally sourced snacks to more consumers across the region.

Mabulawanon Crisp Original (MCO) is located at Purok Maligaya, Poblacion, Tampakan, South Cotabato
