TRIVIA TUESDAY | The Tigman-Hinagyanan-Inarihan River Irrigation System (THIRIS) traces its beginnings to the Naga-Calabanga Irrigation Project in the early 1980s. Completed in 1989, the project brought irrigation services to a 3,542-hectare service area spanning the municipalities of Calabanga, Bombon, Magarao, and Canaman.

Through the construction of the Tigman and Hinagyanan Dams and the rehabilitation of the Inarihan Dam, THIRIS became an important part of the irrigation infrastructure supporting agricultural productivity in the area.

TRIVIA TUESDAY | Did you know that a sluice gate lifting mechanism plays an important role in managing water flow, especially during heavy rains and typhoons? By raising or lowering the gate, water flow can be regulated to help manage debris, branches, and fallen trees carried by strong currents, allowing them to be directed toward the proper discharge route and out to the open sea.

This also helps protect the intake gate and irrigation canals by preventing large debris from entering the system, reducing the risk of blockages and damage. With the right operation of the sluice gate lifting mechanism, a simple lift can help keep irrigation facilities protected, water flow controlled, and our farmers safer from the impacts of extreme weather.

Larry Franada, CARP Central Office Project Manager.

THROWBACK THURSDAY | From hand to machine, a glimpse into the evolution of threshing through the years. Before modern equipment made the work faster and more efficient, threshing was done by hand, requiring patience, strength, and countless hours of hard work under the sun. Every grain was earned through dedication and perseverance.

Today, automatic threshing machines have transformed the process, helping farmers save time, reduce labor, and handle the harvest more efficiently. From the traditional ways of the past to the technology we use today, every step reflects the progress of farming while honoring the hard work that has always been at its heart.
