The Swiss Pacific Team (Embassy of Switzerland in the Philippines, Embassy of Switzerland in New Zealand, and Embassy of Switzerland in Australia) has just concluded a week of exchanges and engagements in Fiji 🇫🇯.

🌏 The visit formed part of Switzerland’s broader engagement in the Pacific: ensuring Pacific perspectives are heard in international forums, particularly in International Geneva; advancing local community-focused initiatives through Swiss small grants projects across the region; and deepening Switzerland’s understanding of the Pacific and its priorities through continued dialogue and partnership.

🤝 As a regional hub for international organisations and cooperation, Fiji provides an important opportunity to engage with partners from across government, international and regional organisations, and civil society.

🇫🇯 We were particularly honoured to meet Fiji’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Mrs. Dr. Raijeli Taga, and Deputy Secretary Mr. Anare Leweniqila. We also had the pleasure of meeting with the Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Secretariat, Baron Waqa to exchange views on current regional developments and priorities across the Pacific.

👉🏻 During the visit, we further met with the Pacific Community-SPC, the UN in Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu & Vanuatu, the United Nations OCHA Office of the Pacific Islands, the United Nations Human Rights, the UNDP Pacific Office in Fiji, the Pacific Resilience Facility (PRF), as well as Pacific and European Heads of Mission. We also exchanged with the Pacific Islands Association of Non Govenmental Organisation (PIANGO). and Nakau.

🎓 The programme included a symposium at the The University of the South Pacific (USP) on multilateralism, democracy and human rights, bringing together academics, practitioners and students for an exchange on global cooperation and the role of International Geneva.

🇨🇭🇫🇯 We leave Fiji with a deeper appreciation of the perspectives and priorities of Pacific partners, and with renewed commitment to continued dialogue and cooperation across the region.

We thank all our partners in Fiji for the warm welcome and valuable exchanges throughout the week.

The event served as an important platform to strengthen tourism partnerships, deepen destination knowledge, and further promote Switzerland as a preferred travel destination for Filipino travelers.

🤝STE 2026 also highlighted the value of regional cooperation and people-to-people exchanges through tourism — bringing together partners from across Southeast Asia to build new connections and shared opportunities.

🇨🇭📚 The Embassy of Switzerland is honored to receive an Appreciation Award from the DepEd Philippines in recognition of its continued partnership and collaboration in advancing youth engagement and education initiatives in the Philippines.

Ambassador Nicolas Brühl accepted the award on behalf of the Embassy, highlighting the strong cooperation with DepEd through the Embassy’s flagship initiative, the 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲.

Celebrated annually in Switzerland every second Thursday of November as the 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗭𝘂𝗸𝘂𝗻𝗳𝘁𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴, the Day of the Future gives young students the opportunity to explore the world of work and discover future career paths. Through this initiative in the Philippines, the Swiss Embassy — together with participating Swiss companies — opens its doors to students from different schools across the country, encouraging curiosity, learning, and innovation.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Department of Education and Secretary Sonny Angara for this meaningful recognition. Switzerland remains committed to supporting education, innovation, and empowering the next generation. 👏🏼
