On Thursday, April 16, 2026, Bangladesh Embassy, Manila hosted an Interactive Workshop under the theme ‘Bridging South and Southeast Asia: Bangladesh-ASEAN Partnership for Shared Prosperity’ in Manila. The participants of the workshop included the diplomats, government officials, academicians, scholars, businessmen, media personnel, think-tanks etc.

The workshop focused on Bangladesh’s aspiration of becoming the Sectoral Dialogue Partner (SDP) to ASEAN and accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement. It highlighted Bangladesh’s growing role as a bridge between South and Southeast Asia, and the potentials between Bangladesh and ASEAN in expansion of trade and commerce, connectivity and other areas of mutual interest.

During his keynote speech, His Excellency Mohammad Sarwar Mahmood, ndc, Bangladesh Ambassador to the Philippines, highlighted the Bangladesh-ASEAN partnership, emphasizing on the importance of building stronger economic integration, people-to-people connections, fostering innovation, and collaborating on climate resilience and shared values. The Guest Speaker Ms. Shanchita Haque, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh, underscored different aspects of engagement and cooperation between Bangladesh and ASEAN in her remarks.

Followed by the speeches, the participants engaged in two elaborative panel discussions, titled ‘Trade and Economic Integration’ and ‘Pathways to Sectoral Dialogue Partner (SDP)’. The panelists pointed out different areas of collaboration between Bangladesh and ASEAN, i.e energy, supply-chain integration, ICT, export diversification, human resources development, skill alignment, and alumni integration etc.

The Embassy hosted a Diplomatic Reception under the theme 'Bangladesh's Global Vision: Advancing Multilateralism' on April 6, 2026 in Manila.

The reception aimed to seek support for Bangladesh's Candidacy for the Presidency of the 81st Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, expressing Bangladesh's aspiration to become the Sectoral Dialogue Partner to ASEAN and accession to the RCEP.

The reception was attended by Ambassadors, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).

Today a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in Nursing Education and Capacity Building has been signed between the Bangladesh and the Philippines at Manila.

On behalf of Bangladesh, H.E. Mr. Mohammad Sarwar Mahmood, ndc, the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Philippines and on behalf of Philippines, Professor Shirley C. Agrupis, Chairperson of Commission on Higher Education signed the MoU.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Manila celebrated 55th Anniversary of Independence and National Day of Bangladesh with due solemnity and festivity and organized a Reception program in honour of the foreign dignitaries in the Philippines on Monday, March 30, 2026. H.E. Maria Theresa B. Dizon-De Vega, Undersecretary, Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines was the Guest of Honor. Among the other guests, there were Ambassadors, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Academics, Press and Media personnels, Businessmen etc.

H.E. Mr. Mohammad Sarwar Mahmood, ndc, Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Philippines, in his welcome remarks, payed his profound respect to all valiant martyrs of the great Liberation War of Bangladesh. He also urged to elevate the partnership with the Philippines to greater heights through exploring its vast untapped potential. Undersecretary Ms. Maria Theresa congratulated Bangladesh on its 55th Anniversary of the Independence Day, and underscored on the growing bilateral relations between the two countries.

It is mentionable that earlier, the Embassy also arranged a program at the Embassy premise on 26 March 2026, for the members of Bangladesh Community living in the Philippines.
