Attended the 37th Anniversary yesterday of 602 Infantry (Liberator) Brigade in Carmen, North Cotabato.
This is the brigade I commanded during the all-out offensive against the M**F in 2000. I had as many as 7 battalions in some operations. Suppressive violence, we had to do it.
Today Carmen is Philippines’ no. 1 in palm oil production. With about 25,000 hectares of palm oils; an oil mill churns out 60 tons per hour. The local palm growers sell their nuts to the oil mill and get paid about P8M daily for their raw palm nuts. Talk about new found purchasing power for many people who have gone through the recent conflicts.
In my earlier swing to and in , is palpable . Productivity has gone up. I really enjoyed being a tourist enjoying the peace that the people are going through.
. We of have toiled so much to win peace, and now development.
Go visit your former areas of assignment. And walk down memory lane - this time in peace.
