Kinikilala ng TINDIG UST - AB ang araw ng Marso 8 bilang paggunita sa paninindigan para sa kakayahan at karapatan ng kababaihang manggagawa sa buong mundo, kasabay nito ang pagkampanya at pagpanalo sa panayam ng mga manggagawa ng Nexperia.

BUHAY ANG DIWA NG EDSA

Naninindigan ang TINDIG UST-AB sa pagpapahalaga ng makasaysayang rebolusyong winakasan ang pasismo at pagdurog sa karapatang pantao ng sambayanan. Walang makabubura sa katotohanan. Papanagutin ang tumatapak sa katarungan at kalayaan.

On this day a year ago, TomasinoWeb issued a public apology after being threatened and ordered by the UST Office for Student Affairs (OSA) in response to the controversial photo of CICS students entering 7/11 in their summer uniforms.

This incident has exposed the alarming state of the university’s blatant disregard for press freedom and democratic rights. A year has passed, yet the attack of censorship and repression persists and so does the fight for genuine academic freedom.

Despite a year later, things are still the same. Therefore, Thomasians, let us continuously take action against repression and demand accountability. ✊

Today, on the 1st of October, 2024, the Manila City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 11 submitted its verdict on the case of Atio’s death.

We, TINDIG UST - AB, along with the S.D.P., L.A.P.I.S., LAKAS-L.O.O.B., LAKAS-C.H.O.R.V.A., TINDIG-S.H.S., & KABATAAN-ITO, stand with the decision of the RTC. The RTC ruled guilty against ten members (Arvin Balag, Mhin Wei Chan, Axel Hipe, Ralph Trangia, Oliver Onofre, Joshua Macabali, Robin Ramos, Marcelino Bagtang, Hans Rodrigo, & Jose Salamat) of the Aegis Juris Fraternity for violating the Anti-hazing law that led to the death of Horacio “Atio” Castillo III.

The country still remembers Atio, a UST law freshman, who was victimized by hazing initiation. This resulted in his death on September 17, 2017, at the hands of Aegis Juris. His death prompted the University of Santo Tomas to suspend the recognition of all fraternities, sororities, and similar organizations. This incident also pushed the House of Representatives to amend the Anti-Hazing Act of 1995, now recognized as the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018 (RA 11053), to outright ban all forms of hazing rather than just merely regulate it.

This celebration will not end today but will continue for a long time to commemorate this justice. We hope this solemnity will bring peace to the mourning hearts but not allow us to forget our beloved Horatio.

Sa paglipas ng pitong taon, nakamit natin ang panawagang mabigyang hustisya ang pagkamatay ni “Atio”. Katuwang ng bawat organisasyong naninindigan para sa makabuluhang araw na ito, sinusuportahan ng TINDIG UST-AB ang desisyon ng RTC na panagutin ang frat na Aegis Juris.

Tulad ng matagumpay na pagkamit ng hustisya para kay “Atio”, ating ipagpapatuloy ang panawagang itakwil ang marahas na kultura ng mga frat at hingin ang hustisya para sa bawat indibidwal na naging biktima ng hazing! Ang kaso at pagkamatay ni “Atio” ay hindi malilimutan at magsisilbing rason upang ipagpatuloy ang ating panawagan.

Ginugunita ng TINDIG UST-AB ang ika-52 na anibersaryo ng Martial Law, upang alalahanin ang madilim at madugong trahedya sa ilalim ng rehimen ng mga Marcos sa gitna ng disimpormasyon.

On September 17, 2017 (Sunday), UST Civil Law Freshman Horacio "Atio" Castillo III was pronounced “dead on arrival” at the Chinese General Hospital, after a hazing initiation rite conducted by the Aegis Juris Fraternity. His parents, Carmina and Horacio Castillo Jr, later found their son lying in a funeral home with bruises, cigarette burns, and candle wax drippings on his body.

After seven years, the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) declared that the verdict on the suspects of the hazing slay case will be finally released on October 01, 2024 (Tuesday). As the legal proceedings of the case continue, Atio's family, along with the faculties and students, remain hopeful that justice will be served despite the numerous challenges the case faces.

In light of the upcoming verdict, we, TINDIG-A.B., together with the S.D.P., L.A.P.I.S., LAKAS-L.O.O.B., LAKAS-C.H.O.R.V.A., TINDIG-S.H.S., & KABATAAN-ITO calls for the Thomasian community to be united in the fight for justice for Horacio and other victims of hazing and related acts of violence.

Kabilang ng iba’t ibang mga hanay ng kabataan, ang TINDIG UST-AB ay nakikiisa upang alalahanin at matibay na manawagan para sa hustisya ni Horacio “Atio” Castillo III. Bilang mga tunay na progresibong kabataan, lubos ang ating pagtutol sa karahasan at nepotismo na nagdudulot lamang ng hindi makatarungang sistema sa loob at labas ng unibersidad. Walang lugar ang marahas na kultura ng mga frat, kung tunay ang ating pagsisilbi para sa ikabubuti ng kapwa kamag-aral at kapatiran.

Ang pagkilala kay Horacio ay katumbas ng pagtindig para sa mga biktima ng karahasan. Sama-sama natin silang ipagdasal at ipaglaban, kasama ang kanilang pamilya bilang mga tunay, palaban, at makabayang kabataan.
