The Marine Environmental Protection Command (MEPCOM) formally activated the Marine Environmental Protection Regulatory Compliance and Governance Service (MEPRCGS) on 08 May 2026 aboard Mary Bachrach Building 1, 24th Street, Port Area, Manila.
The activation ceremony was presided over by 𝐑𝐀𝐃𝐌 𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐋 𝐀 𝐒𝐔𝐏𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐀𝐍 𝐏𝐂𝐆, Commander, MEPCOM, and marked another step in the continuing strengthening and improvement of the Command in support of the Philippine Coast Guard’s marine environmental protection mandate.

The ceremony also featured the renaming and reorganization of several MEPCOM units to improve operations, regulatory functions, environmental governance, personnel development, and support services.

During the ceremony, the logos of the different units and the 17 MEPGs were also unveiled, symbolizing the Command’s renewed identity and continuing commitment to environmental protection and maritime governance.

The Marine Science Investigation Force (MSIF), led by 𝐂𝐀𝐏𝐓 𝐃𝐄𝐗𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐕 𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐑𝐄𝐒 𝐏𝐂𝐆(𝐌𝐏𝐒𝐀), Commander MSIF, hosted a visit from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), represented by 𝐂𝐃𝐑 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐑𝐈 𝐀𝐊𝐀𝐆𝐈 𝐉𝐂𝐆, at the MSIF Laboratory in MEPCOM Farola, Binondo, Manila on 29 April 2026.

The visit highlighted the MSIF Laboratory’s existing capabilities in marine scientific investigation and environmental assessment, while providing an opportunity to discuss areas where JICA may extend support to further enhance the laboratory’s services.

Discussions focused on potential avenues for capacity development, including technical upgrades, equipment support, and specialized training to strengthen the unit’s operational effectiveness.

The MSIF reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with JICA in advancing marine environmental protection.
