𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐈 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝟓𝟗𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲
The Philippine Eye Research Institute (PERI), in celebration of its 59th founding anniversary on June 19, commemorated Dr. Geminiano T. de Ocampo, PERI’s founding director and the national scientist who was instrumental in establishing PERI as the country’s premier eye research institute.
PERI paid a courtesy visit to Marcelo H. Del Pilar National High School in Malolos, Bulacan, where Dr. de Ocampo spent his secondary education. PERI, led by its director Dr. Victor Arni DP Sicam, held a lecture covering Dr. de Ocampo’s life, and PERI’s background and societal contributions. He and PERI researchers also moderated an open forum with the students regarding future career opportunities in the field of ophthalmology.
PERI’s anniversary on June 19 coincides with the 163rd birthday of Dr. Jose Rizal, the nation’s national hero and one of the first Filipino ophthalmologists.
