PEACEFUL RESOLUTION REACHED IN BATAAN HOSTAGE INCIDENT; SUSPECT NOW IN POLICE CUSTODY

Camp Captain Julian Olivas, City of San Fernando, Pampanga — A tense hostage situation involving a married couple in Orion, Bataan ended peacefully after police negotiators successfully convinced the suspect to surrender on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

According to reports, personnel of Orion Municipal Police Station responded to a call from the Barangay Chairman of Brgy. Bilolo regarding an alleged hostage-taking incident at Sitio Kataasan at around 10:00 AM.

Upon arrival, police officers found the suspect allegedly holding his wife in a chokehold while threatening her with a kitchen knife inside their residence. The suspect reportedly refused to let the victim go and demanded that police leave the area.

During the negotiation, the suspect initially handed over the knife to a relative. However, moments later, he allegedly picked up a pair of scissors and again threatened the victim, prompting authorities to continue carefully managing the situation to avoid further harm.

At around 11:15 AM, PCOL Maritess A Salvadora, Bataan PPO Provincial Director personally supervised the negotiation efforts. After more than an hour of continuous dialogue, the suspect eventually surrendered peacefully at around 12:30 PM.

The victim was safely rescued and later referred for medical examination, counseling, and other assistance services from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.

Meanwhile, the suspect remains under the custody of Orion MPS and will face charges for Hostage Taking under Article 267 of the Revised Penal Code and violation of Republic Act 9262 or the Violence Against Women and Their Children (VAWC) Act.

PRO3 Director PBGEN Jess B Mendez commended the responding personnel for their calm and disciplined handling of the situation, emphasizing that the peaceful resolution reflects the continuing implementation of the PNP Focused Agenda centered on professionalism, public safety, and compassionate policing.

“This incident could have ended differently, but because of the patience, restraint, and professionalism shown by our police personnel, the victim was rescued safely and no lives were lost. This reflects the kind of policing we continue to uphold under the PNP Focused Agenda — responsive, disciplined, and compassionate public service. Here in Central Luzon, we remain committed to providing ‘serbisyong mabilis, tapat, at nararamdaman’ especially during critical incidents where lives are at stake,” PBGEN Mendez said.
