PRESS RELEASE | NBI APPREHENDS INDIVIDUAL FOR SELLING UNREGISTERED FI****MS
On May 28, 2026, the NBI-Counter Terrorism Division (NBI-CTD) arrested an individual in Makati City for violating Sections 28(b) and 32 of Republic Act No. 10591 (Comprehensive Fi****ms and Am******on Regulation Act).
The operation stemmed from information that a gun dealer in Makati Cinema Square, Makati City, was selling unregistered, high-powered, fully automatic long fi****ms to politicians who maintain private armed groups, particularly from Central Mindanao, Sulu, and Basilan. The information was confirmed when the subject offered to sell unregistered, high-powered, fully automatic long fi****ms without asking for LTOPF from their customers.
On May 28, 2026, joint operatives from NBI-CTD, assisted by the NBI-Counter Intelligence Division (NBI-CID) and NBI-Technical Intelligence Division (NBI-TID) proceeded to the target gun store. They met the subject, who offered to sell four (4) unregistered automatic ri**es and two (2) unregistered pistols, all from different imported brands. The subject offered a price of Php1,000,000.00 for all of the unregistered guns. The undercover agents agreed to the offer and handed over the marked money to the subject, who immediately received and counted it in front of the NBI agents. At this juncture, the operatives approached the subject and placed her under arrest.
The arrested subject was brought to the NBI office, where she underwent standard booking procedures and will be presented for inquest proceedings for the above-stated violations.
NBI Director Atty. Melvin A. Matibag commended the dedicated teamwork and collaborative efforts of the NBI-CTD, NBI-CID, and the NBI-TID. These combined efforts culminated in a crucial operation that successfully uncovered an illegal establishment engaged in the illicit sale and distribution of high-powered fi****ms. These fi****ms were notably not registered with any government authorities, posing a significant security threat.
