Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority joins the Inauguration and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony of the Tourist Rest Area in Patikul, Sulu
The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), led by Chief Operating Officer Mark T. Lapid, participated in the inauguration and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Tourist Rest Area (TRA) in Patikul, Sulu. Held on May 30, 2026, the event was attended by Sulu Vice Governor Abdusakur Tan, Department of Tourism (DOT) Undersecretary Myra Paz Abubakar, DOT Region IX Director Dara May Cataluna, and other officials from the Provincial Government of Sulu.
The newly inaugurated Tourist Rest Area is designed to provide convenient and accessible facilities for travelers, serving as a welcoming gateway for visitors exploring the province’s cultural and natural attractions. The project reflects the national government's continued commitment to enhancing tourism infrastructure and improving the overall visitor experience in emerging tourism destinations.
The inauguration highlights the strong collaboration among TIEZA, the Department of Tourism, and the Provincial Government of Sulu in advancing sustainable tourism development, strengthening local tourism capabilities, and creating opportunities for inclusive economic growth in the region.
As of today, TIEZA has completed 17 TRAs all over the country while 39 TRA projects are in different stages of implementation.

TIEZA advances sports tourism through Fairway to the Future ⛳
The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) continues to strengthen sports tourism initiatives through its “Fairway to the Future” program by designating Club Intramuros Golf Course and Zamboanga Golf Course as training venues for aspiring golf athletes.
TIEZA Chief Operating Officer Mark Lapid underscored the agency’s partnership with the Philippine Sports Commission in promoting sports tourism and expanding opportunities for young athletes across the country. COO Mark Lapid also emphasized TIEZA’s commitment to the continuous enhancement and development of golf course facilities that support both tourism and sports development.
By opening its golf courses as training grounds for junior golfers, TIEZA helps nurture the next generation of Filipino golf talent while reinforcing the country’s standing as a premier destination for golf and sports tourism.
TIEZA is a member of the National Sports Tourism Inter-Agency Committee pursuant to Administrative Order No. 38, Series of 2025.

TIEZA-funded STP and boardwalk promote sustainable tourism.
The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), together with the Local Government of Puerto Galera, conducted a joint inspection of the TIEZA-funded Sewerage and Wastewater Treatment Facility and the Boardwalk along White Beach on May 5, 2026.
TIEZA Chief Operating Officer Mark Lapid and Puerto Galera Mayor Robinhood Ylagan led the inspection.
Completed in November 2022, the facilities continue to strengthen environmental management systems, improve wastewater treatment efficiency, and ensure the long-term protection of Puerto Galera’s coastal ecosystems.
As a testament to these efforts, recent reports show that f***l coliform count in White Beach is at its lowest level since 2014.
From January to April 2026 alone, Puerto Galera has already welcomed approximately 250,000 tourists—highlighting the scale of its tourism activity and the critical role of maintaining low f***l coliform levels in sustaining visitor confidence and protecting public health.

Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority visits ongoing rehabilitation of Museo de Nuestra Señora de Peñafrancia.
On Saturday, May 16, Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) headed by Chief Operating Officer Mark Lapid visited Naga City for the site inspection of the Museo de Nuestra Señora de Peñafrancia. During the inspection of the project’s ongoing construction and completion works he was joined by Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo and Rev. Fr. Jene Lois Sarmiento, vice rector of the Our Lady of Peñafrancia Basilica Minore and National Shrine.
TIEZA has completed the phase 1 of the restoration amounting to Php 15.750 million and allocated another Php 78.8 million for the phase 2 of the rehabilitation.
The site inspection highlights the collective commitment to preserving and promoting the rich religious, cultural, and historical heritage of Museo de Nuestra Señora de Peñafrancia. Upon completion, the museum is expected to further strengthen faith tourism, cultural preservation, and historical education for future generations.

Puerto Galera Hyperbaric Chamber Center nears completion.
On 05 May 2026, the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), headed by its Chief Operating Officer Mark Lapid, inspected the ongoing construction of the Hyperbaric Chamber Center in Puerto Galera. The establishment of Hyperbaric Chamber Centers in key dive destinations in the Philippines is part of TIEZA’s commitment to ensuring tourists’ welfare and security.
The facility, which is expected to be completed in June 2026, will play a vital role in emergency response and medical readiness for diving-related incidents, helping reinforce safety standards and ensure prompt care for both local and visiting divers in Puerto Galera.

The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) successfully conducted its Medium-Term Corporate Strategic Plan (MTCP) Mid-Term Review on May 18, marking an important milestone that reaffirms its commitment to performance excellence and sustainable governance.
Headed by Chief Operating Officer Dr. Mark T. Lapid, together with the ACOOs and Managers, the workshop centered on progress against targets, financial resilience refinement, and establishment of future-ready foundations to ensure measurable outcomes.
TIEZA moves forward with greater momentum – translating plans into meaningful impact today and in the years to come.

TIEZA announces completion of five (5) floating dock facilities in Puerto Galera
As part of its continued engagement in Oriental Mindoro, the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), led by Chief Operating Officer Mark T. Lapid, conducted a follow-up site inspection on May 5, 2026, for the installation of modular floating docks across key ports in the municipality.
Located in Minolo, Muelle, Sabang, San Antonio, and Daluan, the project is expected to improve maritime accessibility, enhance passenger safety and convenience, and support the efficient movement of tourists—further strengthening Puerto Galera’s position as a premier tourism destination.
The inspection was conducted with Puerto Galera Mayor Robinhood “Robin” Ylagan and Vice Mayor Rocky D. Ilagan, highlighting TIEZA’s continued commitment to advancing tourism infrastructure and promoting inclusive local development.

As part of its continuing efforts to strengthen tourism infrastructure in the province, the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), led by Chief Operating Officer Mark T. Lapid, conducted a site inspection of the ongoing boardwalk development.
The project intends to improve accessibility and visitor mobility, enhance the overall tourism experience, promote sustainable eco-tourism, and create livelihood opportunities for local communities around Naujan Lake.
