Good news to our motorists!
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has announced a 3-month extension on expiring licenses and motor vehicle registrations β and you won't be charged a single peso in penalties during this period.
LTO Chief Asst. Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao has issued a memorandum circular ordering all regional offices nationwide to implement the extension, following a Department of Transportation memo dated April 14, 2026, issued in response to the government-declared State of National Energy Emergency.
Starting April 2026, the following documents due for expiration are automatically extended for three (3) months from their respective expiry dates:
πͺͺ Driver's Licenses
π Conductor's Licenses
π Student-Driver's Permits
ποΈ Motor Vehicle Registrations
For the entire duration of the extension period, the LTO will NOT impose any surcharges, penalties, or fines for late renewal of the above-listed documents.
The LTO cited reduced working days and an anticipated surge in transactions as key reasons for the relief measure, giving the public a fair window to comply without rushing, and without paying extra.
All LTO offices have been directed to ensure uniform nationwide implementation and to manage the expected increase in transaction volume to keep public service running smoothly.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) apprehended six individuals involved in illegal fixing activities during a joint anti-fixing operation with the Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) of Quezon City and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on April 8, 2026.
The operation was carried out in the vicinity of the LTO Central Office as part of the agencyβs intensified campaign against fixers, in line with Republic Act No. 11032 and the 7-Point Priority Framework of LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao.
Based on the report, the six male individuals were caught offering illegal assistance in exchange for faster processing of LTO transactions.
Citation tickets were issued by DPOS personnel for violation of QC Ordinance No. SP-1656, Series of 2005, otherwise known as the Ordinance Banning Fixers Within the Vicinity of Government Offices.
The apprehended individuals were subsequently turned over to QC DPOS for proper disposition, while the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) conducted profiling and documentation procedures.
Asec. Lacanilao emphasized the agencyβs firm stance against fixers and reiterated the importance of protecting the integrity of public service.
βFixers have no place in the LTO. We will continue to intensify our operations and strictly enforce the law to ensure that our services remain transparent, efficient, and accessible to all,β Asec. Lacanilao said.
He also urged the public to transact only with authorized LTO personnel and to refrain from engaging with fixers to avoid fraud and unnecessary complications.
