CONCEPT:
In promoting family-oriented town, the Municipality of Pilar is known for its generous, hardworking, loving and God-fearing people. A religion-based cultural activity of Our Lady of Pillar Parish also known as “Virgen del Pilar” were the name of our town was derived. Pilar was formerly a barrio of Sierra Bullones, known as Lungsudaan. It became a separate municipality on December 29, 1961
, by Executive Order No. 460 issued by then President Carlos P. It was politically divided into 21 Barangays. The feast of Our Lady of the Pillar is celebrated on 12 October with grand nine- nightly events every year in her honor. In the year 1996, Virgen del Pilar was processioned in a very meaningful route as fluvial parade as blessing of a newly-constructed Malinao dam since there are a lot of incidents happen as life-threatening of the people. Malinao Dam was constructed to help irrigate(panubig) the farms of the town Pilar and serving to nearby towns of San Miguel, part of Ubay and Alicia since farming is a major livelihood specifically rice. As the center of rice granary in the province of Bohol, “PANUBIG” was a general term commonly used by the people to irrigate the farm (rice field, coconut plantation, banana plantation, poultry, piggery, etc.) since water is life. Pilar is known for its watershed area in the province of Bohol serving drinking water to the entire town and nearby places. The water source of Pilar is located at Bgy. Bayong Sitio Bantayan, The Bantayan Spring (Tinubdan) and Bgy. San Vicente specifically at the Sagnap Spring, a famous hang out place of the people during summer that turns to be the town’s tourist attraction. In the light of a cultural activity, the Local Government of Pilar and the Virgen del Pilar Parish introduces the PANUBIG FESTIVAL which commemorates its maiden celebration as thanks giving and blessing of the people in honor of Our Lady of Pillar for giving a bountiful harvest to the devotees. Panubig Festival is staged on the 11th of October 2014.
