The Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), participated in the Palawan: Worldโ€™s Best Island Travel & Trade Expo 2026, held on October 23โ€“25, 2026, at Ayala Center Cebu, Cebu City. Organized by the Palawan Tourism Council (PTC) in partnership with the Provincial Government of Palawan (PGP), the three-day event brought together tourism stakeholders, prospective investors, business partners, and representatives from various institutions to strengthen business linkages and promote Palawanโ€™s tourism and investment potential.

On the third day, October 25, during the Investment Forum at Seda Ayala Center Cebu, EnP Sharlene D. Vilches, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator, presented the โ€œPalawan Investment Outlook: Opportunities Beyond Tourism,โ€ highlighting the provinceโ€™s potential across tourism and hospitality, agribusiness, infrastructure, utilities, digital services, and other emerging industries.

The presentation underscored that investing in Palawan goes beyond its world-renowned natural attractions. With opportunities in airport and port development, road connectivity, agricultural processing, renewable energy, water and waste-management services, digital infrastructure, and sustainable tourism, the province offers avenues for partnerships that can support local enterprises, generate employment, and promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

Moving forward, the Provincial Government of Palawan, through the PPDO, remains committed to establishing connections with interested investors and linking viable proposals with the provinceโ€™s development priorities.

Beyond paradise, Palawan is ready to connect, collaborate, and create opportunities for sustainable development.

The Provincial Government of Palawan, through the Provincial Statistics Committee (PSC) chaired by the Provincial Planning and Development Office in partnership with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), celebrated the 37th National Statistics Month (NSM) through a training on Microsoft productivity tools on October 6, 2026 at VJR Hall, Capitol Complex, Puerto Princesa City.

Carrying the theme โ€œTuklas Pilipinas: Statistics as Beacon towards Inclusive, Resilient, and Sustainable Tourism,โ€ the celebration highlighted the importance of statistics in shaping tourism development that is inclusive, sustainable, and resilient.

Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator EnP Sharlene D. Vilches, Chairperson of the Provincial Statistics Committee, said that the theme is particularly timely and relevant to Palawan, where tourism serves as one of the major drivers of the provinceโ€™s development.

Vilches emphasized that tourism development must go beyond economic gains and visitor numbers, taking into account the rich traditions and culture of Palawan, as well as the people and communities who are an integral part of the provinceโ€™s tourism landscape. She underscored the importance of ensuring that communities are meaningfully involved in and benefit from tourism development.

She also highlighted the importance of statistics in promoting more equitable and inclusive tourism development. Reliable data can help guide decisions that balance tourism growth with the protection of Palawanโ€™s natural resources and the sustainability of ecosystem services that communities and the tourism industry depend on.

As part of the NSM celebration, participants underwent a Training on Microsoft Productivity Tools facilitated by trainers from DICT Palawan, strengthening digital skills that support the effective handling and presentation of statistical information. The training covered the basic and advanced features of Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel, equipping participants with practical tools for organizing, processing, analyzing, visualizing, and communicating dataโ€”skills essential in transforming statistics into useful information for planning and decision-making.

The participants were also oriented on cybercrime and cybersecurity, as well as the use of electronic signatures (e-signatures) in support of a more secure and digitally enabled government workplace.

Meanwhile, Ms. Sheryl Lyn Policarpio, Supervising Statistical Specialist of PSA, expressed her appreciation to the participants for their active participation and thanked them for their continued support to initiatives promoting statistics, digital literacy, and capacity development.

The Provincial Government of Palawan (PGP), through its Performance Management Team (PMT), with the Provincial Planning and Development Office and Provincial Human Resource Management Office working closely with the other PMT members, conducted the PGP-SPMS Rationalization of Major Final Outputs (MFOs) and Performance Standards and Measures Calibration Workshop on September 23โ€“24, 2026, at Southwind Palawan, Barangay Tiniguiban, Puerto Princesa City.

The two-day activity brought together representatives from the various departments and offices of the PGP, as well as the provincial government hospitals, to review and refine their respective MFOs, performance standards, and performance measures.

The workshop aimed to ensure that the identified MFOs accurately reflect the mandates, core functions, and key deliverables of each office, while establishing performance standards and measures that are clear, measurable, relevant, and appropriate to their respective functions.

During the workshop, the rationalized MFOs per sector were presented, covering the Governance, Social, Economic, Environment, and Infrastructure sectors. Participating offices and hospitals likewise presented their proposed MFOs and performance standards, which were subjected to discussions, comments, and critiques from the PMT and fellow participants.

The calibration process placed particular emphasis on the alignment of office functions and performance measures with the Provinceโ€™s vision, development goals, strategic directions, and priority outcomes. This ensures that the performance of individual offices is linked not only to the delivery of their respective services, but also to the broader development objectives of the Provincial Government of Palawan.

The discussions likewise highlighted the importance of calibrating performance standards and measures to provide a more consistent and objective basis for assessing organizational and individual performance. The process is expected to strengthen the linkage of the SPMS with the PGPโ€™s broader performance management and human resource management systems, as well as support the Provinceโ€™s governance and performance commitments, including Seal of Good Local Governance indicators.

The activity identified succeeding steps toward the finalization and approval of the calibrated standards, including the revision and submission of the Performance Standards and Measures by the departments, offices, and hospitals; review by the PMT; approval of the calibrated standards; the subsequent preparation and submission of OPCR and IPCR targets for CY 2027; and endorsement from PMT of policy directives identified during the workshop.
