𝐀𝐃𝐕𝐈𝐒𝐎𝐑𝐘:

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, being the lead agency in the fight against illegal drugs, is committed to protect the Filipino people from substances that threaten the health and safety of the Filipino citizens. While we are steadfast in stopping illegal drug activities, we are also dedicated in educating the people.

This advisory is aimed to inform the public of the dangers of MESCALINE, a dangerous drug found in the cactus species Lophopora WILLIAMSII, commonly known as Pe**te.
Lophophoras are a distinct group of cacti characterized by their small, SPINELESS and globular appearance. While there are several species within the genus Lophophora, only one species — Lophopora WILLIAMSII, contains Mescaline.

Only Lophophora Williamsii that contains Mescaline is prohibited by law. Lophophora species that do not contain Mescaline are not prohibited. In order to determine the presence of Mescaline, suspected Lophophora Williamsii specimens have to undergo laboratory analysis.

Mescaline is a dangerous drug listed in the 1971 UN Convention on Psychotropic Substances and Republic Act 9165, also known as “The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002”. It is controlled due to the adverse effects caused by its administration to the body. Mescaline is naturally present in Pe**te cacti (Lophophora Wiliiamsii).
