As the election approaches, may we have better understanding on the issues and concerns that confront our country.

May we have a heightened sense of discernment so that we choose leaders who hear our voices, a government that upholds and protects human rights and justice for all its citizens, regardless of gender, class, race or religion.

May we, in a time of great transition, exercise our solemn duty not only to vote, but to influence others to vote, and to vote wisely. 🙏

Few hours later, I found her climbing a rambutan tree. 🙈
We ended up harvesting anyway... 😆

Woke up early and ran.

Now, I don't feel guilty eating a lot. 😸

Following the enthusiasm over the achievements of Filipino athletes at Tokyo Olympics 2021, news about sports and the support to our athletes have been at the forefront of every social media. This made me look back at last year's challenge as a law student - to write a dissertation and defend it.

"Freedom to Play: An Antitrust Challenge to Professional Sports' Eligibility and Draft Rules" was borne out of my experience as an athlete. The plight of Filipino athletes enthused me to probe one of the complex problems in sports under the context of law. This dissertation wouldn't have come to fruition w/o the support of my thesis adviser, Atty. Anthony Goquinco , whom I share the same passion for sports.

"The commercialization of sports has helped in the development of the economy. It created new market to pe*****te, bringing billions of investments. Professional sports have become a new path to some. It created new job opportunities and hope for a better life to many athletes.

At some point, however, an athlete's pursuit of happiness is impeded by professional sports establishments' adoption of rules. Athletes who can play professionally are confronted w/ restrictions and limitations which are based on economic decisions. While there are rules which are necessary to build competition in sports, there are some that transgress the interest and rights of athletes.

This thesis will examine the legality of these rules in the context of antitrust laws. By applying different antitrust standards, this thesis will examine specifically eligibility and draft procedure rule of the country's biggest professional league - the Philippine Basketball Association."
