500 Coconut Farmers in Catanduanes Successfully Complete SOA Program

VIRAC, Catanduanes — A total of 500 coconut farmers from 10 municipalities across Catanduanes successfully completed the School-on-the-Air (SOA) on Coconut Production and Processing conducted by the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) Bicol under the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Program, in partnership with the Philippine Coconut Authority.

Mga kasama sa agrikultura! Alam n’yo ba na ang Dairy Box Project ng Philippine Carabao Center ay tumutulong para mas mapalawak ang access sa sariwa at lokal na gatas habang sinusuportahan ang kabuhayan ng mga dairy farmer? Abangan bukas sa “AgriAsenso” ang talakayan tungkol sa proyektong ito.

Makakapanayam natin si Ma. Theresa Rodolfo-Sawit, Senior Science Research Specialist at Coordinator ng National Carabao-Based Enterprise Development Program (CBED) mula sa Philippine Carabao Center. Ibabahagi niya ang mga benepisyo ng Dairy Box Project para sa mga dairy farmer at mamimili, at kung paano nito pinauunlad ang dairy industry sa bansa.

Tatalakayin niya ang kahalagahan ng AgriSerbisyo on Wheels: Coconut Information Exchange at kung paano nito pinalalawak ang kaalaman ng mga magniniyog sa makabagong teknolohiya, tamang farm management, at mas sustenableng produksyon ng niyog.

Pag-uusapan din ang iba’t ibang coconut agro technologies, coconut varietal identification, mga paraan sa pag-iwas sa peste at sakit ng niyog, at ang mga oportunidad sa patuloy na pag-aaral sa pamamagitan ng mga e-learning courses ng ATI.

Representatives from DA-ATI and DA-BAR convened for the 2nd Quarter Agriculture and Fisheries Resources, Research and Extension for Development Network (AFRREDN) Meeting from May 25-26, 2026, in Quezon City.

The meeting focused on finalizing the network's Sustainability Framework and updating guidelines to better integrate agriculture and fisheries research and extension. This initiative aims to equip the agri-fisheries sector in tackling evolving challenges like climate change and food security in the Philippines.
