🌡️ PILIPINAS, IKASIYAM SA MGA BANSA NA MAY PINAKAMATAAS NA PROJEKSIYON NG HEAT-RELATED DEATHS

Tinatayang 6,500 karagdagang pagkamatay sa Pilipinas ang maaaring maiugnay sa matinding init mula Setyembre 2026 hanggang Pebrero 2027, ayon sa projection ng Climate Impact Lab.

Batay sa talaan ng 50 bansang posibleng pinakamatinding maapektuhan, nasa ikasiyam na puwesto ang Pilipinas sa tinatayang bilang ng karagdagang heat-related deaths sa panahong saklaw ng pag-aaral.

Binigyang-diin ng mga mananaliksik ang pangangailangan ng maagap na paghahanda, kabilang ang heat warnings, cooling centers, at proteksiyon para sa mga manggagawang nagtatrabaho sa ilalim ng matinding init, upang mabawasan ang panganib sa buhay.

Ang 6,500 ay projection, hindi kumpirmadong bilang ng mga pagkamatay.

Moderate to Heavy rainshowers with lightning and strong winds are expected over (LapuLapuCity, Cordova), (EnriqueVillanueva, Larena, SanJuan and Siquijor) within the next 30 minutes to an hour.

The above conditions are being experienced in (Lazi and Maria) which may persist within 1 to 2 hours and may affect nearby areas.

All are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts associated with these hazards which include flash floods and landslides. Keep monitoring for updates.

𝗘𝗟 𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗢 𝗜𝗦 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗝𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗗𝗥𝗬 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦

El Niño occurs when the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean warms abnormally, weakening trade winds and disrupting global atmospheric circulation. Its impacts are often most pronounced during the October–March period, but vary across regions.

In the Philippines and parts of Southeast Asia and Australia, El Niño is commonly associated with hotter, drier conditions that can worsen drought, reduce water supplies, and threaten agriculture.

However, El Niño does not bring dry weather everywhere. Taiwan and southern China may experience wetter-than-usual winter conditions, while the Americas and Africa can see contrasting patterns of drought and increased rainfall in neighboring regions.

The Philippines ranks first among 193 countries in the WorldRiskIndex 2026 due to its high exposure to natural hazards and vulnerability.

Located within the Western Pacific typhoon belt, the country faces extreme storms and overlapping hazards. It records exceptionally high exposure scores for storms (89.71), earthquakes (73.15), tsunamis (69.66), coastal flooding (58.14), and sea-level rise (60.17). This combination makes the Philippines the world's most multi-hazard-exposed country, underscoring the urgent need for stronger disaster preparedness and resilience.

The WorldRiskIndex assesses disaster risk across 193 countries by combining exposure to natural hazards and vulnerability. Vulnerability includes susceptibility, coping capacities, and long-term adaptation. Developed with UNU-EHS and refined by Ruhr University Bochum’s IFHV, it uses 100 indicators to guide decision-makers in identifying priorities for disaster risk reduction.

BAKIT MAULAN PA RIN KAHIT MAY EL NIÑO?

Matapos ideklara ng DOST-PAGASA ang pagtatapos ng Southwest Monsoon o Habagat noong Oktubre 5, 2026, unti-unti nang pumapasok ang Pilipinas sa panahon ng Northeast Monsoon o Amihan. Gayunpaman, hindi nangangahulugang agad na titigil ang pag-ulan sa buong bansa.

May iba’t ibang sistemang pangpanahon na maaari pa ring magdala ng ulan sa Pilipinas, kabilang ang Northeasterly Windflow (daloy ng malamig na hangin mula sa hilagang-silangan, na karaniwang kaugnay ng pagpasok ng Amihan), shear line, Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), easterlies, low-pressure areas (LPA), mga bagyo, at localized thunderstorms. Ang mga sistemang ito ay maaaring magdala ng moisture at magpaunlad ng mga ulap na nagdudulot ng pag-ulan sa ilang lugar.

Bagama’t pinatataas ng El Niño ang posibilidad ng mas mababang dami ng pag-ulan at mas mainit na kondisyon, hindi nito tuluyang inaalis ang posibilidad ng mga pag-ulan, kabilang ang malalakas na buhos sa ilalim ng angkop na kondisyon ng panahon.

TANDAAN: Ang posibilidad ng mas mababang pag-ulan dahil sa El Niño ay hindi nangangahulugang mawawala na ang ulan. Nakaaapekto ang El Niño sa pangkalahatang pattern ng klima, ngunit ang aktuwal na lagay ng panahon ay nakadepende rin sa mga umiiral na sistemang pangpanahon. Kaya kahit may El Niño, maaari pa ring makaranas ng maulan na mga araw ang iba’t ibang bahagi ng bansa.
