6th SK Federation Meeting Successfully Conducted

The 6th Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation Meeting of Surigao City was successfully convened under the leadership of SK Federation President Hon. Jenelyn Edulzura, gathering thirty (30) SK Chairpersons from various barangays across the city. The meeting served as an essential platform for discussion, coordination, and strengthening of youth governance initiatives in preparation for upcoming programs and activities.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the presence of Mr. Robert Patayon, City Local Government Operations Officer (CLGOO) of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Surigao City. During his presentation, Mr. Patayon discussed the salient provisions of DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2026-021, particularly focusing on the creation and functions of the SK Transition Team. He provided comprehensive guidance on the transition process, compliance requirements, and the responsibilities of SK officials in ensuring a smooth and accountable turnover of programs, projects, and financial records. He also shared important updates and reminders from the DILG regarding governance, transparency, and effective youth leadership.

The meeting further served as a venue for addressing concerns and clarifying issues faced by SK officials in their respective barangays. Participants actively engaged in discussions and exchanged best practices that could enhance the implementation of youth-centered programs and services.

Meanwhile, SK Federation President Hon. Jenelyn Edulzura highlighted the preparations for the upcoming **Mayor's Cup**, one of the city's major youth and sports development activities. She emphasized the importance of cooperation among SK officials to ensure the successful conduct of the event, which aims to promote sportsmanship, camaraderie, discipline, and youth engagement across Surigao City. Updates regarding tournament mechanics, schedules, and coordination efforts were also discussed.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from the SK leaders to continue fostering meaningful youth participation, strengthen inter-barangay collaboration, and uphold their mandate of serving the young people of Surigao City. Through collective action and shared leadership, the SK Federation remains steadfast in its mission of empowering the youth and advancing community development.

Congratulations to us, Sangguniang Kabataan of Barangay Lipata, for being recognized as a NATIONAL FINALIST in the Ten Outstanding UN SDG Awards (TOUSA) 2026: Recognizing the Changemakers of Tomorrow!

This achievement reflects the dedication, passion, and collective efforts of our youth leaders in advancing sustainable development and creating meaningful change in the community. May this milestone inspire us to continue empowering the youth, serving with purpose, and building a brighter future for all.

The council will proudly receive this recognition during the UN SDGs Youth Convergence 2026, to be held on June 24–28, 2026, in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

Under the heat of the day and the demands of the event, you stood ready to offer refreshment, encouragement, and support to hundreds of runners striving to reach the finish line.

The success of the Surigao Marathon was made possible not only by those who ran the race but also by dedicated young leaders like you who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Your willingness to serve reflects the true essence of youth leadership—selfless, proactive, and committed to community engagement.

Each cup of water you handed out, every word of encouragement you shared, and every effort you made contributed significantly to creating a safe, organized, and memorable experience for all participants. Through your actions, you showcased the strength of the youth sector and the impact that collective service can bring to our city.
