The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) is strengthening its role in developing a competent and globally competitive maritime workforce as the Philippines holds the 2026 ASEAN Chairship, with maritime cooperation, regional connectivity, and people-centered development among the priorities of the country’s leadership in the region.

NMP Executive Director Victor Del Rosario said the institution is pursuing modernization, expanded training access, and new assessment services to help Filipino seafarers meet evolving industry requirements and international standards.

The agency’s efforts come as the Philippines highlights the importance of maritime cooperation in ASEAN. The 2026 Chairship theme, “Navigating Our Future, Together,” underscores regional connectivity and cooperation, with the chairship framework identifying peace and security, prosperity, and people empowerment as key priorities.
