The Center for Extension and Development, in collaboration with the Institute for Social Development and Nation Building, successfully conducted the Community Organizing Orientation on October 14, 2026.

The activity deepened participants’ understanding of community organizing, people’s participation, and collective action in fostering meaningful and sustainable community development.

📚 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗢𝗕𝗧𝗟 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽

The Center for Extension and Development participated in the Research OBTL Writeshop organized by the Center for Research Management.

As part of the activity, a presentation on “Integrating Community-Based Action Research (CBAR) in Teaching Research” was shared, highlighting how CBAR concepts and approaches can be incorporated into research instruction and help strengthen the connection between academic learning, research, and community engagement.

The session served as a valuable opportunity for knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and capacity-building among faculty members as they continue to enhance research teaching and learning outcomes.

📘𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲, 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲

Nearly two months of drafting, review, and meaningful consultations with the different Colleges and Institutes have gone into the development of the Research and Extension (R&E) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of the Center for Extension and Development.

These consultations provided an opportunity to listen, gather inputs, clarify existing practices, and build on the experiences of the University as the office moves from its previous Community Extension mandate toward its broader Research and Extension mandate.

The proposed SOPs cover:

🔹 Certification of UMak Employee Outreach Programs
🔹 Certification of UMak Employee Extension Services
🔹 Certification of Significant Contributions to Community Dev't
🔹 Certification of Community-Based Action Research (CBAR)
🔹 Approval of Community Extension Work of Student Organizations

The consolidated proposal will soon be presented to the Management Committee for review and approval, marking another step toward strengthening and harmonizing UMak's Research and Extension processes.

📚 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼-𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀

The Center for Extension and Development and the College of Continuing, Advanced and Professional Studies successfully concluded Module 6: Community Impact Assessment as a Research Tool, held on July 15, 2026, at HPSB 1012.

The seminar-workshop brought together UMak graduate students, extension coordinators, and faculty members engaged in community-focused research and extension programs.

Through meaningful discussions, knowledge-sharing, and participatory workshop activities, participants explored tools and approaches for assessing community impact, strengthening evidence-based practice, and placing community voices at the center of assessment and development.
